Trade for Aldridge?

Post#1 » by Joshumitsu » Sun Aug 4, 2013 10:03 pm

Blazer fan here.

Remember the last time you guys acquired a lengthy PF who was automatic from mid-range and could also play down low?

If I recall, it must've been 2 Finals appearances and 1 championship ago.

So, I'm thinking how about Aldridge+2nd rounders for Greg Monroe or Andre Drummond (one of the two)+Charlie Villanueva+maybe first rounder (top 10 protected)?

Portland gets a legitimate center for the future and gets younger as they try to rebuild.

Detroit gets a team that can compete with Miami, New York, Brooklyn, Indiana, and Chicago....aka Jennings, Smith, Aldridge, and Monroe/Drummond. The perfect combination of vets, in their prime stars, youth, athleticism, and teamwork. They'll be contenders for the next 5-7 years, especially if they can find a decent shooter (maybe KCP in 1-2 years).

What do you think?

How about just Monroe and Stuckey for Aldridge? I would do it in a second.

Wait, so you're saying that you think Greg Monroe has more value than Andre Drummond?

It looks like he's just say that he wants a 1st rounder with either Monroe or Drummond.

Obviously I'd pass on this. There's no point in us trading big for big.

No, I should edit that. I meant Monroe or Drummond+filler. One of the two.

Likely the Blazers get Monroe back in return but either one works for Portland as they definitely need a starting center.

Of course there is, when one of them can shoot and that's what we need. Monroe isn't anywhere near the level of Aldridge plus the fit is obvious.

I believe there is.

One player compliments the young, stud center while the other player is a twin of the young, stud center.

The thing is that Detroit's offense encourages Drummond to shoot a bunch of mid-range shots. He can't exactly make those at an efficient clip. That's not his main game. However, you compliment either him or Monroe with a big man who can hit that shot automatically and you've got chemistry. Your offense will encourage Aldridge to shoot and make those mid-range shots.

Aldridge is also an underrated help defender. I recall watching many, many games with Aldridge helping Oden out (they were like 50-10 in games played together) and could see the Pistons achieving similar results on defense. Having Josh Smith blocking shots doesn't hurt either. As for interior defense? Aldridge was ranked Top 5 in defending the basket from 5 ft. or less according to this academic paper:

Here is Aldridge's 2012-13 shot chart:

With Aldridge, you got a versatile team that can do anything from anywhere. That's what you need against superstar laden teams.

I like Monroe for Aldridge straight up...plus whatever expiring contracts are necessary to make it work. Another trade I've been a major proponent of. Aldridge fits perfectly. Upgrades defense over Monroe yet his offensive game is a better compliment and fit.

If he was 2 yrs younger I'd be down. If we trade Monroe I'd rather it be for a top 5 sf near his age

i'm happy wait on Monroe. Hopefully he gets to Aldridges level soon, if not oh well he's still younger and a very good player.

No thanks. I would be game for Monroe and Jennings for Damian Lillard and Nic Batum, even though Batum is overpaid by about 3-4 million per season.

It's either Monroe for Aldridge straight up, or nothing. Aldridge is probably not gonna resign with us so it's a huge gamble. We could end up with nothing at the end. I know Aldridge is currently better than Monroe, but this shouldn't be an equal deal knowing Aldridge wants out of POR.

Drummond is untouchable. Monroe for Aldridge is a fair deal but I still decline. Monroe is younger, cheaper, and still has plenty of room to grow. He may be better than Aldridge someday so I would rather just hang onto him and let him grow with our young core. Him and Dre have some good chemistry together already too. Although, Aldridge's spacing is very tempting...

This. Even if LMA is better now, I don't think the Pistons are going for a title this year. Hopefully in two or three years. So in three years, Monroe will still be younger than LMA (duh), and may be better than him. Pistons are setting things up for three years, not next season. So "no" to this trade even if it is a fair one.

Minnesota is offering Derrick Williams and a S&T with Pekovic.

I think people are really overvaluing LMA versus what NBA GM's think of him. Especially as he can walk on a team at the end of next season.

Greg Monroe + Charlie Villanueva+first rounder (top 10 protected) for Aldridge?

Yes, yes, and yes. I like Monroe but Aldridge? is better complement with Drummond. He is quicker and hit mid-range jumber.
Sorry for my poor english
