Ok, so after Dumar's Q&A the other day, it sounds like (as we expected) that Josh Smith will be playing a lot of PF. So Datome and Singler will be playing SF? Maybe for next year, but I would expect CV and Stuckey's expiring deals gets us a new SF - either this year at the trade deadline, or as cap space next summer to get a free agent. Who do you think we will be able to get?

LBJ wouldn't leave sunny Miami for Detroit. Kobe is a SG thru and thru. Deng would be awesome, but I bet Granger is as close as the Pistons could get. Unfortunately, I doubt Indy makes any trades with a rival barring injuries to key positions.

I still think Josh Smith spends at least 20mpg at the SF position. That leaves about 28 minutes to split amongst Singler and friends.

Josh smith is our starting SF going forward unless we trade him. We need to be looking at 6th man type SF signings unless we go for a trade at that position. Deng or Granger off the bench would be awesome after those first 6 mins..

I have a feeling we are going to go hard after Melo next summer. With Chauncey here we have the tools to recruit him and the talent now to attract him. All we would need is to dump the expiring contracts of Jerebko, Singler, and Bynum and we would have the money to give him close to a max deal. Imagine trading Monroe for Rondo and then signing Carmelo next summer, starting a lineup of Rondo, Jennings, Carmelo, Smith, and Drummond. WoW

Melo would make sense. Joe keeps talking about positionless basketball and with the amount of great passers in our starting lineup, we would be able to make a BJ Melo Smith Moose and Dre lineup work. Obviously the smaller guys would blow past our back court (BJ and Melo) but our front court abilities and athleticism is great enough to form elite help D.

We'd be a juggernaut in the East.

I think its going to be some 3 & D rookie that can pass...

And falls under the radar because of Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker getting all the headlines.

We find him, snatch him up in the 2nd round kinda like Miami did with James Ennis this year. (I believe if Tony Mitchell wasn't available we would have drafted James Ennis... Joe D was looking for "long, wing athletes")

Personally I don't want to spend big money on Granger/Gay...
I think this team needs to continue to build around Monroe/Drummond.

There's only 1 ball... our only missing piece is a Kahwi Leonard type that has a high assist/to ratio...

I know I'll be looking for one come NCAA season.

isn't Heyward an RFA next season? maybe we could throw a Jeremy Lin type deal at him and see what Utah does. he'd be a good fit and he could play some 2 when Smiths at the 3.

Right now, smith is going to play 50/50 between both forward spots, so if we're spending big, we need a guy that can start at SG and slide down to SF when Smith slides to PF.

I think they're going to see how the current line up pans out. If it doesn't work, they have a lot of assets to trade to potentially find a fit, whether that's Smith, Monroe, or (gasp!) Drummond.

Melo has brought up the "What If" a few times regarding Pistons drafting Darko over Melo. I think he always wanted to be a part of the Pistons. And, if Melo realized the potential playing with Drum, BJ, Smith, Monroe amongst others, that is quite enticing.

They could just crossmatch on defense, let Melo guard SFs and have Smith guard SGs. It may not work for a whole game, but for just 6 min stretchs like Joe said it could definitely work. Then the rest of the game when we move Smith to PF, we would have Carmelo at SF instead of just Datome/Singler.

Or they could keep Smith at SF and move Carmelo up to the stretch 4 position. The possibilites would be endless. If I'm Joe I keep Stuckey/CV letting their contracts expire, then work on ways to dump Jerebko, Bynum, and Singler between now and July, and go all in for Carmelo.

^He isn't wrong on some of his points. Takes a lot shots, yes. Black hole, yes. Teams never win? Not quite...he did get to the WCF one year, but yeah...he has never been able to take his team to the Finals.

With that said, he's one of the most talented players in the league and any team would love to have him on their roster. Anyway, I don't think Melo/LeBron/Wade ect... are realistic options. If we are going after an SF my favorite guys would be Harrison Barnes, Kawhi Leonard, Gordon Hayward. Paul George is a beast but he's going to be in Indiana for a while.

only way we get another impact SF will be a trade. I think Monroe would go to do so probably.
