Simple SF improvement - Ariza-CV

If we think we need some help at SF, and assume the CV will not contribute at all, we should do an Ariza-CV swap with Washington. Might need to throw something in, but they have Porter and Webster at SF as well. The good thing is both contracts are expiring, so we still have flexibility after doing the trade - just a better fit.

It depends on Otto Porter. He was the heir apparent for the starting SF position, until summer league. Now, it's being widely speculated that the job is Ariza's to lose.
If Porter steps up, this deal seems reasonable. They're both expiring contracts, neither are going to be looked at to contribute a lot to a team.
It would muddy up the minutes on the wings even more so for players like Singler and Datome.

Muddy up for sure. It's not clear to me who would be better - Ariza, Singler or Datome. But if Smoove is going to be spending a lot of time at PF, we need to look a little closer on who would come in at SF. Maybe Singler is a solid rotation player. Maybe Luigi is the real deal. This should be a good battle at training camp to see who is going to get backup minutes at SF.

Despite the minutes issue, I would still do it. CV does have some value as a stretch 4 for us, especially line-ups with Drummond in them.
But, I think Ariza would fill a better need with his 3&D play, however much of that is left in him.

I think CV plays a big role this season.

I like CV this year

As looks right now. CV will probably get some minutes in the rotation. I see him getting 15 minutes a game between the PF and center spot and maybe more if Monroe and Drummond get foul trouble. I'd like to add Ariza but would offer up Stuckey for him and not CV.

Me too. He's going to be playing in hopes of getting one more contract that's more than the league minimum (which is his current market value).

I think something thats overlooked in Dumars' statement about them only playing the first 6 min of the half together, is that doesn't mean Smith has to be the one to shift to PF when Dre or Moose comes out. We could bring in CV with Drummond to run some of the stretch offense we had last year and just keep Smith at SF. Most of the concerns about Smith at that position is just because Monroe and Drummond can't shoot, but if you bring in CV to spread the court, Smith at SF would be fine. So I don't think we have that big of a need for a back up SF, because Smith could end up playing a lot more minutes there than we think when we go with CV up front. Plus Dre/Smith could cover up CV on defense, so I think CV could actually play a lot this year.

I have watched Ariza for years and he is a solid defensive SF that can hit the 3. I would be all over this in a heartbeat.
Bynum/CV for Ariza anyone?

Jennings
KCP
Ariza
Smith
Drummond
That is one nasty defensive lineup. I'd definitely do this deal. At Ariza's size he can also play that stretch 4 role.

if Datome can fill the stretch 4 role it would be a decent move.

i think the value is fair. But i'm not sure Ariza is much of an upgrade over Singler and Gigi.
CV could be useful with either Smith or Drummond next to him. Im not holding my breath for CV to produce, but it could happen.

Great move. Would do it in a millisecond. Ariza is a much better player, defender.
It doesn't matter if the stretch is from 3 or from 4, as long as the floor is stretched.

Villanueva/Drummond and Smith/Monroe could potentially be our best bigman pairings in terms of balance. I could see CV actually having a roll as a 16-18 mpg stretch 4. Depends on what sorta shape he's in and how consistent JJ can be offensively.
In terms of value it's solid and I can see the potential benefit for both teams. But first I wanna see Cheeks rotations and get a look at CV, JJ, Datome, etc.

Ariza for CV and Afflao for Stuckey and we'd have the best defense in the NBA next year.

That makes no sense for us. CV at least can shoot, Ariza doesn't give us anything we need. He is a mediocre shooter and been a mediocre defender for years. He is not much of an upgrade over Singler and like I said, CV at least can shoot and we'll need that. Pretty horrible idea even tho the value is ok.

I like Ariza but we really need Villanueva's shot in the frontcourt, the Wiz would love to get their hands on a big man like Monroe I bet, I wonder if we could work out something along the lines of...
Monroe-Stuckey
for
Beal-Okafor
Drummond/Okafor
Smith/CV
KCP/Datome
Beal/KCP/Billups
Jennings/Billups
KCP isn't big but he's not skinny either so I think he could play quite a few minutes at the 3

I think that CV will be a consistent part of the rotation and motivated in a contract season this year. When our bench went on that big run last season he played really well along side Drummond, I still think he has some value for us.
