Seems more like a publicity stunt to me. Discuss

Well we DO need a backup big man so it's not 100% a publicity stunt if it's a position of need. I'm OK with it - I just think we could do better.

Best case scenario he sells some tickets and teaches some defensive ways to our bigs while providing a good locker room presence. I say go for it.

So why would you be OK with it if we can do better?

I keep hearing "locker room" presence to describe this guy but I doubt it. Does anybody see him as someone who'll rah rah the guys up at half time if the team puts a stinker out there in the first half of a game? Or if young guys are goofing off, does he seem to be the guy to say something to get them back in line? I see him as the quiet dude over in the corner that pretty much goes unnoticed and falls in line behind the ACTUAL vet leaders on the team. That's not a locker room presence.

If he can play, he can play.
But he can't play. He's washed up.

Yeah I think there are better options. I never really liked Collins game. I always thought it was weak. Big Ben is a better pick. He'll have a huge impact on the team and the game whether his minutes are limited or not.

I 2nd the would rather sign Big Ben notion. Screw publicity. We need to bring fans back to the palace, continue to develop our young guys, build chemistry and build an identity this year. We don't need the added issue of whether or not the other 14 guys would all be OK with having him in the locker room(It's a legitimate question), or the media coverage.

Man, I was thinking the same thing when I first read the Collins-to-Pistons rumor...

The Pistons do need a nasty enforcer kind of big man. Somebody to smash back the Hansborough's of this league.
Whoever we get is coming into play emergency minutes, and game is outa-hand minutes, or looking good in a nice suit non-minutes on a loaded roster. This team could also use edgy noteworthy players. Collins controvery (I don't think this is a controversy, but not everyone views it that way) could create a bit more interest in our team, and we need that. We need to get noticed around the league, and we need to bring our fans back.
Mostly though, I think we need a veteran big man. Maybe Collins fits.

I'm fine with the fact that we don't have to find out.
I remember thinking that it was possible Collins could never play again and it would have nothing to do with him coming out of the closet. I have no issue with giving him a shot to make the team, but I'm not sure how much game he has left.

I don't think there's anything wrong giving him an unguaranteed contract and a shot in the pre-season.
