George Yardley DEFINITELY should be on any all time Pistons list.

Lanier, Bing, Yardley, etc may all have been greater individual players than some on my list, but they didn't bring the Pistons franchise the great success that the guys on my list did, so I have to give them the edge overall if we're talking careers as Pistons only and what they did for the Pistons.

Rodman was great and if he would have had another 2-3 years with Detroit he would make the top 5... Same could be said about Grant Hill if he would have had another few years with Detroit. Ben Wallace had 8 years with Detorit which if you're talking about all-time greatest on a franchise overall than I think 8 is going to be about the minimum number of years you could possibly play for a team like ours.

86-87 to 92-93 I believe which 7 years and as a rookie he only played 15 MPG so he just missed out on top 5 but is in my top 7 or 8 over guys like Sheed, Billups, RIP, and Prince.

My #6 would be Bing and my #7 Rodman.... Grant Hill played only 6 seasons with Detroit but he still cracks my top 10 as well over Sheed who played 5.5 years and

Not going to argue with you about this but just want to give you a thought. George Yardley gave birth to the DETROIT Pistons. He was with them in Fort Wayne(yes, I am old enough to remember this) and the team wasn't worth buying and moving to Detroit without Yardley. Then he made the Pistons a name in the NBA by becoming the first player in the NBA to score 2000 points!

Good points. Yardley was definitely one of the Piston pioneers that helped pave the way for future Pistons' success. I'd be curious to know anything you could tell us about Bobby McDermott from the Fort Wayne Pistons. I've read he was considered by some to be the first basketball superstar and was a dominant scorer who had one of the best long range shots ever. I believe it said he won 4 straight MVPs in the NBL during the 40s, and also led the Pistons to back-to-back NBL championships. Any firsthand insight on him?

Sorry, can't help you on Bobby. I was born in 1942. Grew up on the west coast and the first pro basketball I ever saw on TV was the last year the Pistons played in Fort Wayne. Been a Pistons fan ever since.

The most difficult team to coach against

The Detroit Pistons of the early 1990s with Dennis Rodman, Rick Mahorn and Bill Laimbeer were always the toughest team for Jackson to coach against.

"The Detroit Pistons were always hard to coach against," Jackson said. "When I first got to Chicago, we had a couple of fracas."

Hoopshype just posted their slide show of the 50 Greatest Pistons of all time (they've been working their way through the league). Their top five were Isiah, Dumars, Bing, Lanier and Laimbeer; perhaps not exactly how everyone here would have it, but certainly a reasonable top of the list. However, there were other spots in their top 50 which were just downright laughable and insulting. The most glaring example? Ben Wallace at #11 ... when Tayshaun was #10, Rip was #9, and Chauncey was #6 (Rasheed was #15, by the way). How on earth any even halfway reputable basketball site could rank the members of the "Go To Work" championship squad and NOT place Ben Wallace in the highest slot is beyond me. Anyhow, my gripes with their rankings aside, it's a fun slideshow and worth five minutes to scroll through —
