The Next LAIMBEER?

Statistical and Synergy Video Analysis from Hickory-High says that Josh Harrelson is not just a fringe NBA bench big.
Did Joe D snag another diamond in the rough? Will Cheeks give him a chance to shine?
"Whichever way you slice it, Harrellson’s fringe player label is inaccurate for someone of his proficiency. Detroit now possesses what is likely a diamond in the rough, found on the outskirts of professional basketball. Now it’s up to the Pistons to give Jorts a chance, and for the big man to show he belongs."

Maybe he will beat out Drummond for the starting center?

lol...
not quite. Just talking about a similar playing style.
At best he's the 4th big. I don't think its too much for him to beat out Charlie Villanueva.
Tony Mitchell's doesn't seem to be a 3 point threat, so on a team that needs floor spacing Josh also could get more minutes than Mitchell for now.

Stylistically? They are similar. Not so much level wise. Harrelson may prove to be a solid 10th-12th man at some point, but right now he's just here to sit in a suit, serve as injury-insurance and occasionally play garbage mins.

the idea here is not that Josh Harrelson will start.
The idea is that if your 4th big is better than the other teams 3rd big... then you have a very deep team, and are more likely to win.

The Kind of center who has the potential to be a backup you try to sign for $3mil a year for 4 years, possibly. Bill Laimbeer, no.

People always want "the next" whomever, especially from the Bad Boys on here, and most Pistons publications.
There won't be another Laimbeer. Bill Laimbeer would get teched out of every game in today's NBA.

Laimbeer was drafted in the THIRD round by Cleveland. That means in the present draft he would have been undrafted. He was a much better pro player than a college player. Harrelson never got a chance to play behind the super recruits Calipari brought in until his senior year. And then it only happened because Enes Kanter was ruled ineligible. With very little playing time in college, he played serviceably in his time in the NBA. He played very well last year in China. Of course, that isn't the NBA. But it looks to me like he is a player who is continuing to improve. It seems to me that he can be an adequate backup this year and possibly even better in a year or two. Does that mean I expect him to be as good as Lams? No. Very few human beings are as motivated as the guy "you could tell was taking a jump shot because you could get a piece of paper between his feet and the floor."

Laimbeer would get others to tech out, more likely.

Bill Laimbeer didn't look like an NBA player before he entered the pros, he surprised everyone.
That doesn't mean that any player that looks the way he did before he entered the pros is going to develop into a player like him.

This takes me back to the last preseason when a few tried to claim Terrence Williams and Jonny Flynn could potentially be Billups type signings.

Lets not forget that Kim English was "already better than Arron Afflalo" and "the next Micheal Redd".

Lots of us maybe like to see an underdog win.
It's kind of like when a blue collar team with no true superstars win. Hmmmmmm.
Could that be the Pistons?
