Lead Assistant?

What's going on with our lead assistant position? I remember like a month ago reading we were close to adding someone to the staff, but it never happened. Now its only two weeks until training camp and seems like its getting kind of late to be adding someone new in such a prominant role. Being that they only have a few weeks now to learn Cheek's system/playbook to be able to teach it to the players when camp starts.

I'm starting to think they might just promote a current guy on the staff to the lead role, maybe Rasheed, or maybe even name Chauncey a player's coach or something. I remember Langlois said it was going to be a familiar name. We can rule out Lindsey now as he just got hired to Golden State's staff. Anyone hear anything? I haven't really been following it lately.

Maz Trakh? He's technically not even on the staff. He was just helping out Cheeks in SL, I believe. Though I think it was said that he could possibly join the staff permanantly, but as of now I don't think he is on our staff. Maybe it is going to be him added as the lead assistant after all though.

Dave Cowens was the last player-coach in 1979. It's not going to happen, even on the assistant level.

If you are going to try and call out someone's post, next time come with something better than "duh, it hasn't happened in a while, so I guarantee it won't happen again, huh, huh" .. stfu with this nonsense.

If this is true and Trakh wasn't officially part of the staff, than I strongly suspect Langlois was referencing him when he tweeted about the Piston fans would know the name.

You sound upset, don't take it so personally. I showed that the NBA hasn't employed a player-coach in over 30 years, even when there were plenty of capable candidates over that period. It seems a fair inference that it is highly unlikely that it will.

I had heard that Cheeks brought on Mike Bibby's dad, and former Grizzlies' assistant Henry Bibby on board as an assistant here, remains to be seen though...

Looks like it's Loyer (from Piston's site)

HEAD COACH
Maurice Cheeks (College - West Texas State)
ASSISTANT COACH(ES)
John Loyer (College - Akron)
Rasheed Wallace (College - North Carolina)
STRENGTH-AND-CONDITIONING COACH
Arnie Kander (College - Wayne State)
ATHLETIC TRAINER
Mike Abdenour (College - Wayne State)

Awww poor baby. Say something ridiculous and cry when somebody puts a mirror to it and shows it to you. YOU don't even believe Chauncey will be named player/coach so why even post it? Lighten up dude, stop taking RealGM so serious.
