Charlie Villanueva I watched the last couple time he was on the court -Sad. Hope Pistons Mgmt treats him the same way they did Maggette last season. Mitchell is a rookie but plays hard, deserves the minutes.

How much time CV sees on the court will be determined by how desperate we are for spacing. I don't get the impression that Cheeks cares much for CV because he's always out of shape, so he'll probably be more than happy to keep him glued to the bench. He also has a ton of options at PF. However, if the starting lineup can't score, KCP can't find his stroke/has too many rookie mistakes, Gigi can't play, and Chauncey needs his minutes limited, he'll be forced to play him. This team has a number of shooters on it, but outside of Jennings, pretty much all of them are limited in some way. Things may break just wrong for CV to force on the court.
Of course, I'd say this is a different situation to Maggette though. He didn't have attitude issues, he just couldn't contribute in any way- couldn't shoot, couldn't play D, couldn't really score well anymore. CV can at least shoot some of the time.

Yup. CV sucks. Unfortunately JJ does do much of anything and we need floor spacing. I'm OK with giving Mitchell some limited minutes, but if you are expecting much out of him at this stage you will probably be disappointed. Our best bet will likely be to go small. Despite out quasi-logjam at C with Monroe/Drummond and Smith being forced outa position we really do need a decent 4th big who can stretch the floor.

Does that mean that Josh Harrelson will make this team? He looked decent in limited minutes last game. He has a nice stroke and he has decent size. He definitely isn't afraid to shoot the ball. I'm interested to see if he can catch on a bit.

Well, what I had to say has mostly already been said.
The truth is as crappy as he is he fits with our other players relatively well in terms of spacing, and he played his best ball last year alongside Drummond.
I'd be surprised if he doesn't at least see some burn in stretches this season.

I understand the need for perimeter range... however I think Mitchell will give you more than outside floaters... this team needs energy even if it requires a trade.

I wouldn't judge CV by some preseason games. For all his faults, he's a proven shooter in the NBA. Of course, he's also proven to suck in just about every other facet of the game.
The team needs shooting though. If Jennings and chauncey are starting, that means our bench shooting is going to be ????? None of our perimeter players have stepped up so far and that is going to be a major problem.

Bench shooting is easy: KCP, Singler/GiGi, Jorts. At least some of them better be seeing regular time with the bench unit.

Except none of them are proven NBA shooters. We are HOPING at least 2 of them step up as consistent outside threats.

I would genuinely prefer to watch my testicles being smashed with a hammer than CV in a Pistons uniform anymore.

barring a big trade, the best case scenario would be Datome being able to defend PF's well enough to fill the stretch 4 role. it shouldn't be that hard, all he really has to do is defend 4s as well or better than Charlie. if Datome isn't able to pull it off we're probably stuck looking at Charlies ugly mug for 16-20 minutes a night, hoping he doesn't shoot us out of more games than he helps us win.

Harrelson will make the team, but I doubt he'll be in the rotation. he and Siva should invest in some nice suits, they'll probably be needing them this year.

I'm kindof thinking that you wouldn't actually prefer that.,

Well, the reality is coaches don't usually make decisions based on what a player "deserves". They make decisions based on what is best for their rotations.

My hope is that Jorts takes the backup PF/C minutes this season (assuming MItchell doesn't). He's got a good shot (probably as good, if not better than Villanueva's), he's a solid rebounder and tries on defense. He'll keep the defense honest and won't play matador defense. He might not be the most capable defender, but his size will help him out.
