Michael Carter Williams

Post#1 » by nastassiav » Sun Nov 3, 2013 1:34 am

Anyone seen this dude lately.. 3 amazing games in a row. even had 10 steals in one game haha. Did we have him on our radar, did anyone want this guy? can he play the 2?

I don't believe Detroit had him very high. Though he's a tremendous athlete, he wasn't known for his shooting. He's definitely outplaying his expectations so far.

Detroit was high on him, we were higher on KCP. But MCW clearly is making the 10 teams that past on him pay.

He's likely ROY and best player from the draft class. Sky high potential.

26 points/10 assists/ 4 boards/ 3 steals against Chicago today. I know its super early, but I I told yo so 8-)

Lol remember when people had Burke for ROY or when people voted that he's the best pick at 8? MCW is playing like a man on a mission.

I still like KCP overall though, but no doubt MCW will win ROY. The guy is solid and straight embarrassed Rose from the posts I'm reading.

I'm wondering if this is another Linsanity type scenario where JLin played like an all-star and then regressed to the "mean" of being just solid starter.

I wasn't "all in on MCW" but he was my favorite player in the draft on our projected board.

I wasn't high on him in the lead up to the draft and now he's making me look like an idiot

I liked him a lot for this weak draft - him and KCP. MCW will come down to earth this season a bit, since he's not a good shooter, and he's also a string bean. The long season will wear on him, and his frenetic style of play will have him hit the rookie wall, and hard. No rookie is in this good physical shape to keep up his pace. However, he's a talented pure PG, with the possibility of becoming an elite overall PG if his shot catches up to his other skills. He also gets after it on D.

I would not at all be surprised if the two best players from this draft turn out to be be MCW and KCP. I like Oladipo a lot, too, but to me he's a great role player, not a dominant starter.

There were a couple people that were hot for him. My opinion ran hot and cold. I liked his size and athleticism a lot, but questioned his shooting and ability to lead a team. The board as a whole was generally against the idea of drafting him, though.

I Liked Him A Lot Till I Found Out He Coukdnt Shoot That Well. Looks Like He Worked On His shot.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

As one of his absolute biggest supporters going into the draft, and the guy I wanted us to pick, I won't lie about being pretty satisfied with his start. Kid is going to be a player.

That said, three games does not a career make

Impressive 3 game start but if were judging steals/busts after 3 games than Miami will be missing the playoffs & Philly will win the title.

Wasn't Jennings start better than that?

Easily the most impressive part of his run is that he's faced off against 2 great defenses in the Heat and Bulls and a good defensive PG in Wall. He's not putting up these numbers vs scrubs. Before the draft I thought he'd be the best PG out of the year's class, but an average PG compared to the rest of the league. Looks like I was wrong because he has enormous potential.

I'll cop to this — I was absolutely against us taking him. The kid couldn't hit water out of a boat at with his jumper at Syracuse, so I thought he was entirely wrong to pair with Drummond and Monroe. Obviously, three games is way too small of a sample size to make a final judgment, but so far he's done nothing but make me eat crow.

All that said … is he better for our team than Jennings? Heck, for that matter, how do you really assess a draft pick that was made previous to both signing Smith and trading for Jennings? And in all fairness, isn't it throwing KCP under the bus way too quickly to say he was the wrong pick for us? Yes, MCW has already shown way more than I thought he would, but let's at least let a full season go by before we bemoan passing on the kid instead of making the moves we made.

He was about 6th on my board for the Pistons, after Porter Oladipo Mckemore Burke KCP...

He dropped from 1st to 6th when he started missing all his 3s. Now he's basically Rondo with a 3 pointer... Scary, NBA MVP of games 1-3. Worst thing about it, he's not just putting up numbers he's getting Wins at the end of games. Ridiculous.

The crazy thing is that he had stunk all summer league and preseason, i was starting to look at him as a bust. His confidence must be so insanely high right now.
Theres still no way i wouldve drafted him or any ofthe other point guards. Id probably rather have knight and pope, and id definitely much rather jennings and pope than mcw/burke/mccollum and knight.

I was really hoping we got mclemore the whole period leading up to the draft, and then the night before the draft i watched the draftexpress vid on kcp and fell in love. You can see in the draft thread i was saying if we didnt get mclemore we have to take pope and everyone else was all over trey burke being the only logical option. I wouldve taken mclemore over pope, but im very happy with what we've got.

Mcw has been super impressive but i definitely feel him and the team is going to come back to earth pretty soon. Hes still gotta do it for a little longer for me to not think he will regress back to being turnover prone without a great jumpshot in his rookie year atleast. Good for aixers fans though with noel and the pelicans 1st coming next year.

Return to Detroit Pistons
