because of several reasons:
- Cheeks is a terrible coach and doesn't know what he is doing
- no communication on D, Drummond is too young to be the vocal leader on D, Moose not the best defender, Smith i dunno
- Smith is too far away from the basket to make a steady impact, because surprise, surprise he is a PF not a SF
- we have some terrible, terrible perimeter defense, Chauncey is too old, Jennings and Bynum are midget PGs who gamble and can't keep anyone in front of them, Singler and Stuckey are nothing special either, KCP barely plays
-thats still no excuse to have such a terrible interior defense (Steve Adamas, Robin Lopez, Jermaine O'Neal shouldn't dominate in the paint under any circumstances), Drummond has a lot to learn to become a defensiv anchor. A veteran defensiv player could help out this front court, Smith certainly hasn't displayed any kind of leadership, thats very disappointing to say the least.

I agree with this statement most. It's painful to watch Josh Smith play so far from the basket. He is taking nearly three times as many threes a game as he had in any other season. I also think Drummond's offensive game needs a lot of work. I am just not seeing the growth I expected. Personally I would love to see Drummond come off the bench while moving Moose to the starting C and Smith to the starting PF. Get in one of these wings who can spread the floor and hit an open three. Datome has some nice threes. I am not sure he is the guy for that role though. The Pistons don't need to look farther than Thompson and Curry to see how having good three point shooting can open the offense in the paint. I hope a change happens soon.

Drummond should come off the bench, he can still play 30mpg. Smith should play a little as possible at small forward. We also should be playing KCP at least 25mpg.

Iggy would be looking pretty good in a Pistons uniform right about now. hes a better perimeter defender than our so called lock down defender and hes a better playmaker than our so called point guard, plus his 3s have been falling at a pretty decent clip this year.
I know we didn't stand much of a chance to get him with G.S. going after him, but I wonder how hard Joe actually tried or if Smith was plan A all along.

Smith was plan A all along cause no one was going to sign him. I am almost convinced Monroe will be moved.

Worst Defense in the league, period. (at least on the road)
Thats the worst interior and perimeter defense. They can't keep ANY PG from driving & dishing, they give up a ton of wide open shots. They let average big man have career nights.

Factor in our inability to hit outside shots and FT's and we are basically a bottom 5 team, which is awesome because this draft is good.

Just leaving my opinion here as well as I'm sure this thread will be 10 pages full of tears before Tuesday's game against the Knicks...a team we haven't played competitively against since Melo arrived.
In regards to the Lakers game.
The funny thing is:
1. We won the rebounding battle
2. The Lakers had 8 ORebs we had 12.
Where we really lost was our perimeter game. If you take away BJ's 4 3s we went 4/19 from distance.
The Lakers brought they percentage from distance from 30% from to 40% in the 2nd half.
We have the athlecism to fix those problems. Why isn't it happening? There's 3 possible reasons:
1. These players are not smart enough to pick up an defensive scheme and rotate.
2. Mo hasn't implemented a real defense (unlikely IMO)
3. The team needs time to figure it all out.
I'm hoping its #3. We'll find out which one by the all star break.

Jennings/Bynum
KCP/Billups
Chandler/Singler/Datome
Smith/Faried (Big time energy off the bench)
Drummond/Harrelson

Faried is a bad defender, Charlie V bad.

No. Both are lesser parts. I want SF with the potential to be better than Monroe or already is and someone who plays defense. That is why I am big on trading for Barnes. I think him and Drummond can become an allstar duo in a couple years.

I think once the team plays together for a while we will be alright, we have a new coach and only one player in our starting lineup that was starting last year. Josh and BJ have never played with anyone on this team let alone each other. I think we have a good team, I would like a little more experience off the bench other than Chauncey tho.

I doubt they would want to pay Monroe right now.

^ I know. That is the problem. I think it needs to be a 3 team deal to work.

Mostly because whatever PG Brandon Jennings is guarding beats Jennings like a drum. Jennings doesn't stay in front of anyone. Watch the replay of the Lake game. BJ got beat by old azz Steve Blake. He can't (won't) move his feet defensively at all. He just has quick hands and gambles on steals all the time. But he's one of the worst PG defenders I've ever seen. I'm starting to miss Jose Calderon's stellar defense compared to Jennings. Our PG not being able to defend at all wrecks our entire defensive schemes and rotations. Everyone was open on L.A tonight because BJ couldn't stay in front of ANY of the PG's that LA threw at Jennings. I don't care about the fact he had a buttload of assists or scored 4 straight 3's at the end of that game tonight. BJ was a big factor in the loss. He needs to step up and play some defense.

There was very little attempt to have Jennings stay in front of Blake. Jennings overplayed one side, forcing Blake baseline towards the bigs or a double team and Blake simply just dropped it off and got his teammates open shots. The second line of defense, which in this case is the defense after the pass, just simply wasn't there.
