I think it's a great trade for both teams but the only problem is that GSW would have to pay Monroe next year while Barnes still has a few years left on his rookie deal. I would LOVE to get Barnes here though.

Golden State would take a hit defensively and couldn't afford to pay Monroe....horrible deal for them. Not exactly good for Detroit either....reach on both ends.

Value-wise....Monroe > Barnes.
But Speights/Ezeli > Singler/Bynum.
And Barnes in the starting 5 over Monroe opens up the floor dramatically for Drummond down low. We surround Drummond with 4 guys capable of hitting the outside shot. I think this trade makes us a more balanced TEAM.

Monroe isn't a guy that's going to put anyone over the top, David Lee and Bogut are on huge deals and Bogut is better defensively than Monroe. Wouldn't make sense at all for GSW, especially when considering the business side of it.

I would do it but why would GS take a chance on losing chemistry and having to pay Monroe.

Monroe would give them an awesome 3 big man rotation of Bogut/Lee/Monroe to go with the best backcourt in the league and would put them over the top as the best team in the West imo. They could always make moves later to cut salary if need be.

Yup. Barnes has the tools to become a fantastic defender too, as well as a go-to scorer. I think a deal centered Monroe and Barnes makes a lot more sense than people think.

There are two deals that really make sense and are probably realistic options.
#1 go after Rondo...because they're rebuilding, they could look at Monroe as a nice rebuilding block. But Rondo doesn't bring floor spacing or good shooting....so not a perfect scenario to immediately fix anything. Would have to get Lee in the deal in return too.
#2 Monroe and Villaneuva for Eric Gordon and a pick but I don't think NO has any picks, so maybe Stuckey and Ryan Anderson would both have to be added into the mix as well. Monroe is from NO and could possibly go well with Davis and although Stuckey is very similar to Evans, it's a price to pay to get Monroe. They would also unload a injury prone undersize shooting guard on a huge salary and Charlie would replace the shooting they lost in Anderson.
For Detroit, two shooters....that's it. Hope to God Gordon can stay healthy and Anderson isn't as worthless defensively as Charlie, Jerebko, and Singler.

I don't know Bogut's extension numbers but I think its around either $12-13m a year. You can't pay three front court players a combined $40 million in a season, when all can't even be on the floor together. Plus Iggy and Curry on their 8 figure salaries....not realistic in this CBA.

You're probably right but there are all trades that can be made too. Dumping Lee for something valuable and sliding Monroe into the starting PF position could be another option. If not, a third team could be involved. Finding someone who needs a skilled big man like Monroe should be no problem.

I think G.S. is playing too well and Moose and Lee are too similar for them to be interested.

Don't think Monroe's a fit for GS anyway -- to much of a slow it down player. Lee does what he does, with less low/high post and more movement.

I'd even rather do Monroe for Afflalo & Harris.

but they have david lee who is better than monroe. monroe is not a bench player at this point. so why would they do that.

lol because Asik/Howard duo doesn't work, lets trade a much better offensive guy for Asik and then put him with a less talented Drummond. Perfect!

they have shoped asik. i think he is great defender and has DPOY potantial. if asik/drummond duo won't work, we can trade drummond for a SF. people still high on him so we can take advantage of this.

I was thinking, the one actual legit trade rumor involving Monroe was for Rondo, but no one really talks about it anymore since we got Jennings. However, what if the Knight/Jennings trade was just a way for Dumars to upgrade his trade chips as a means to still get Rondo? So now instead of only being able to offer Monroe/Knight, he can offer a legit package of Monroe and Jennings.
Is it a coincidence that Joe signed Jennings to the exact salary difference between Rondo and Monroe's contracts?
hmm.....
Rondo salary this year is $11.9 million
Monroe's is $4.1 million
In order to make an even trade, Joe would need another player making around 7.8 mil, with enough value that Boston would consider it a fair trade for their best player, when packaged with Monroe. Enter Jennings making $7.7 million, who is producing like an all-star.
Makes you wonder....
I like Jennings a lot, way more than Knight, but I still like Rondo a lot more. And if we made this deal not only would we have a big 3 of Rondo, Smith, and Drummond already, but by not having to extend Monroe it would leave us enough caproom to offer Carmelo a max contract this summer. I like Monroe and Jennings, but if making this deal could lead to this starting lineup: (you do it no questions)
Rondo
KCP
Carmelo
Smith
Drummond
