Will we make the playoffs?

Obviously been a tough start to the season, defense at the moment is awful, the big trio doesn't seem to work that well.
Now, granted, in the next week all of this could change and we could look like a serious playoff team and maybe it was just our tough schedule.
But looking at the rest of the east, I'm not sure we are going to make the playoffs, if we don't, we need to finish in the bottom 7 otherwise this team needs a huge overhaul.
Anyway, the question, do you think we will make the playoffs, or is this an overreaction?

Maybe. The Pistons have looked bad, but they also played a tough schedule (maybe the toughest) to this point. The only "bad" loss was to the Lakers. The Pacers, W's and Thunder are legitimate contenders, and Portland and Memphis were road losses to (very likely) playoff teams.
This isn't working now, but it's too early to call it.

I think it goes a bit deeper than just saying it's not working now. Brandon Jennings IMO has been a weak cog in this puzzle. Yes, he gets stats, yes he is talented, but I'm getting the feeling that he's more like Monta Ellis than Chauncey Billups. There is a reason there were no other suitors for him this off-season. He doesn't strike me as a guy that will garner long-term team success. He's a absolutely HORRENDOUS defender. He gambles on every play and gets beat to the hoop by old azz Steve Blake. He makes some of the dumbest PG plays I've ever seen. From the first thing that they teach young basketball players, NEVER LEAVE YOUR FEET TO MAKE A PASS, that's PG 101. He did it at least 3 times last night in L.A. and got a couple turnover or near turnovers from doing that, to the DUMB shots that he takes. He comes down on a fastbreak and PULLS up for a jumper with NO REBOUNDERS in position for the offensive boards. He's just NOT A SMART BASKETBALL PLAYER. Can he score, yes, fill up a stat sheet, yes. Can he be a leader on a good team and make good decisions to get them to the playoffs and further? Remains to be seen, but the evidence seems to be against him in that regard.

I actually wouldn't be that angry if we didn't make the playoffs but only if we end up bottom 7 and keep our pick. It's pretty clear we are still a superstar away from anything, this draft is our best option

Before the season I said it was a toss-up, 50-50 chance that the Pistons would make the playoffs. Presently, I'd stick with that. If I made any adjustment, I'd say 45-55, slightly more likely to miss.

I certainly hope not. We need to make some trades for young talent and tank this season.

yeah because young talent and tanking got us so far the last 3 years.
...Right now I think we would be in the playoffs if it started today, and are only 2 games out of the 4th seed, so I guess we are a playoff team as of now. But if our defense and FT% doesn't improve, no we will not make the playoffs at the end of the year.
I would be surprised if any team in history ever made the playoffs being 30th in opponent FG% and 30th in FT%.
Even if we did sneak in as a 6-8 seed, we'd barely win a game vs Pacers, Heat, or Bulls who have dominated us over recent years. However that 4-5 matchup looks like an easy ticket to the 2nd round, with both the Knicks/Nets out of it. If we can ever improve our defense and FT%, we could get into the 4/5 seed, and against a team like Atlanta we could even win a series. Which would be huge for this franchise, and definitly better than tanking for more young talent that doesn't help us win, like Knight, Monroe, Singler, Daye, Jerebko, etc etc

Best case scenario: This team makes a truly miraculous turn around and wins a championship.
2nd best case: Team is completely abysmal, and they land a top 2 pick in the draft, walking away with either Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins.
After that- pretty much don't care. Making the 8th seed is a nice step in a process to get better, but it won't be very fun watching the Pistons get steam rolled by the Pacers/Bulls/Heat.

We are pretty much where I expected us to be, I thought we would win vs OKC & obviously last night otherwise the others were losses I expected. My best case scenario was winning at Port additionally otherwise I had us exactly where we are.

The East is so bad that we'll probably make the 8 seed by virtue of being the worst-still-trying-to-get-a-playoff-spot team with all the other teams tanking.

Did you honestly think either of your options were realistic??
Why would you watch any games if you don't care about making steady progress?
And if you're second scenario did come to fruition, would you still watch next season when the team wouldn't be in contention for a title??

Doesn't seem likely. We are currently playing .200 ball.
When is the last time we started 3-6 and made the playoffs?

I still haven't given up on this current lineup yet. It's still early. However I'll be annoyed if we lose to the Knicks.

We will continue to lose to teams with any semblance coaching experience. You can blame the players but at the end of the day Maurice cheeks does not make adjustments. We've been losing because we make poor rotations on perimeter players. Think he'd make an adjustment and make it paramount to not leave a hot hand open? NAHHHHHH

Chris Smith will pull a Jeremy Lin storyline starting tonights game. Chrisanity is about to take over the NBA.

It'll have to wait, he's in the D-League now.
