I look at Thomas and want the same for Mitchell. I wish Joe D would send him and Siva down to the D-League to redefine their games. I'd love to see Mitchell develop a three point shot. It would help the Pistons greatly. Siva could work on his skills as well. I just wish Joe D would utilize the d-league. I hate seeing Mitchell being a towel boy!

Yeah to me tony is a guy who has tons of talent and the tools to be successful in the league. His athleticism is unreal and he showed a bit of a shot in college. At the very least he should he able to be a great defender.

It would be nice if they did something with him, besides mopping up in garbage time.

I think once Bynum is ready to go again, we'll probably see Siva head down to the D-League. He's looked a little out of his depth so far in the limited minutes he's received, and needs the ball in his hand and the reps to work out his kinks.

I also think Mitchell could be headed down with Siva once Bynum returns as well, because that'll give us our 13 guys in uniform, plus two in the D-League. It's all about having everyone fit and not needing them to cover any spot minutes. Again, Mitchell could definitely benefit from and extended run and reps.

Of course all this kind of stuff has to be taken with a grain of salt, but just 4 days ago:

Practicing with the Pistons is one thing....

But actually getting competitive game time and hopefully, his confidence up is another.

While other NBA teams give players like Mitchell a chance to shine we feature Jerebko and Charlie V and years before we featured Jerebko and Maxiell. Absolutely idiotic.

Cant wait till all the trash (Bynum, Charlie V, Jerebko) are all off this roster replaced with cheap players looking for a place in the league and willing to work their butt off to get it.

Tony Mitchell in some of the replays from OT against the Pelicans was hilarious. Like, when Anderson shot one of his threes Mitchell got up put his hands in the air and was like "NooooO!" hahaha

I agree with you. I think if CV isn't going to play than he should be cut or bought out immediately at the trade deadline. I think Mitchell should be in the D-League getting court minutes and working on his game. Practice is useless if you just sit on the bench.

This article is what led me to make this post. The Pistons are just wasting time with Mitchell. If he was not going to see the court, he should have went overseas. Joe D makes me sick sometimes!

I really think him practicing on a daily basis with NBA level coaches, against NBA level talent, is a much better use of his time than going to the developmental league. The competition in the D-League is so far below the quality of the NBA. There's a reason the d-league is an afterthought to NBA teams. Playing in an overseas league would have been interesting, but I like him working with coaches, and teammates that he will be playing with/for in Detroit. Those connections are worth more down the road.

Look, I love Tony Mitchell a lot, but did any of you see what he actually did in college? As the team's star player, he barely scored or really did much of anything. He's got a ton of development to do before he's ready to see regular minutes in the NBA. Furthermore, I don't know if he could handle being in Europe, seeing as he isn't some really smart mature kid who's ready to live in a country where he doesn't even speak the language. I could see giving him minutes in the D-League, but maybe they've got him working with the players on particular parts of his game or whatever.

I wouldn't say 14 pts, 9 boards and 3 blks is barely doing much of anything. He even shows some ability to shoot. He seems like another player who got by in college by being gifted athletically, but still needs to learn a lot about the game. I wonder if the team doesn't see the D-League as situation that would tend to perpetuate his college experience. Amir early on always tore up the D-League but would be stymied when he got back with the big boys. He's an intriguing prospect, but wouldn't be shocked or disappointed if he was or wasn't included in some trade package.

That was his freshman year. Sophomore year he averaged 13.2 pts on horrible efficiency, chucking 3.2 3's a game but hitting only 28.9% of them. He looked like he didn't care and didn't carry his team to anything, which is something you expect and NBA prospect to do, even a raw one.

I always laugh when people say a player should be cut. Seriously come on.

Actually, I was using rounded numbers from his two years combined, but his second year was a disappointment and a major reason he fell so far in the draft. Mitchell was widely thought to be a lottery pick after his first year. You do expect better from a quality NBA prospect, but the same might have been said of Drummond.

That's true, but Mitchell never was regarded as highly as Drummond. I'm okay with Mitchell just learning from the bench for a season, even if I would like to see him destroy some rims, or get more emphatic blocks. He certainly needs work. In his second year he was basically a poor man's Josh Smith- a PF who's incredibly athletic and a monster shot blocker and all, but shot way too many jumpers. Hopefully he doesn't learn too much from Josh on that front.
