Josh Smith SF or PF?

With all of the trade talk about Monroe are we sure that Smith is best suited at PF?
At PF he may reduce the amount of 3 attempts... OTOH he doesn't have the post up advantage as much.
Would we be better off obtaining a 3 & D PF?
If we move Josh to SF do we revert back to a total disadvantage against some of the better SFs in the east?... who could we trade for that would slow down Lebron & George etc.

You know, at this point you may as well. I think I'm done watching the big 3 experiment play out and would rather get a guy that's a great defender at the 3 and can hold his own offensively. That way, we let Monroe continue doing what he's doing and let Dre get all the rebounds.

deng is an unrestricted free agent. dumars shoulda tanked and told gores the plan for better things after the summer of 2014.

Hard to tank with Monroe, Drummond and Stuck playing so well.. Can't imagine us keeping our pick

Good points. You are right. People think any SF would be better than Smith just because they may fit the protypical SF profile of today and he doesn't. But that doesn't mean we will be better as a team, if that player is just a scrub who can shoot. Gigi Datome is protypical SF who can shoot, but you wouldn't want him going against the likes of LeBron, Carmelo, George in the playoffs.

That dominant game Smith had over George is no small potatoes. Sure Smith may not be great at SF throughout an 82 game season, but if you have to get through the Pacers in the playoffs, I sure like having Smith to matchup with George better than just some scrub who can shoot 3s. And that is where my whole stance on this team begins and ends - what gives them the best chance to succeed in the playoffs, not regular season. Which is why I'm not quick to change a frontcourt that leads the league in PIP because I know the value of that come playoff time.

It all depends on what we can get for Monroe though. If we could Carmelo, and we could just play Melo/Smith interchangeably at the 3/4, I'd love that, because it would add some extra shooting that we need without decreasing our frontcourt talent. And give us not one but two matchups for the elite SFs, plus still have Smith who can guard the elite PFs when necessary. I just don't care to trade Monroe for a lesser talent just because he might fit better. Fit only takes you so far.

They still have capspace left to sign Deng this summer, so what would be the point of tanking this year? Especially when you have no draft pick lol

Also, what does a team that's losing due to the inexperience of being the youngest team in the league need to get even younger for anyways? How is adding more youth the answer to anything?

SF, 54 million, 4 years.

SF or PF...all I know is that Smith/Monroe/Drummond hasn't worked very well so far this season. Monroe/Drummond or Smith/Drummond with a legitimate SF would be preferable.

Atlanta never went far in the playoffs in a large part due to having to play small thanks to their tweener PF Josh Smith. Smith is a tweener, he's probably best suited in a Lamar Odom role off the bench.

Top 8 protected. There is no capspace to sign deng especially since you plan on giving extensions to drummond and possibly monroe

THe team isn't losing due to be the "youngest team" in the league.... lol

If you have brandon knight (who is overwhelmingly bad) at the point, you can get a top 8 pick with stuckey, monroe, and drummond

Playing Smith at the four won't only be better for our offense, but better for our defense too. He's better when he's closer to the basket and can help from the weakside, rather than having to be out on the perimeter as much. Would expect if we moved Monroe, Smith's defensive numbers and overall effectiveness would instantly skyrocket.

You're wrong on both fronts. They are expected to be about 10 mil under the cap this summer, which is more than enough to sign Deng. They also hold Monroe's bird rights so they can go over to resign him as well.

Also, they are only 14 million on the books right now for the summer when Drummond needs to be extended. Even if you add 20 mil for Monroe and Deng, that's still plenty of space left to give Drummond a max deal. So yes, they do have the space Deng this summer if they want.

If you don't think this team being the youngest in the league has had anything to do with their 4th quarter problems, you can have that opinion, but that doesn't change the facts. If you are saying young teams in general don't lose because of inexperience, well then you just don't know what you're talking about

Monroe @ C > Smith @ PF or SF.
Monroe @ PF < Smith @ PF.

I'd ante up for Monroe if we were paying him to be our C. He'd be top 10 and borderline All-Star. But I don't wanna pay him big money to be an average starting PF. Whether Smith is a slight downgrade or not (and I don't think he is at that position), we're better off using that money to get a 3 & D guy and then filling out the rest of the roster.

This isn't Smith in a vacuum. You have to look at the complete makeup of the roster and how we're allocating our assets. Where do we get the most value out of each player, and what is going to make them most successful both individually and for the team.

we just need a 3 who's a two way sixth man material, who obviously can shoot, we find that piece, I think we have the potential to give anyone a hard time in a playoff series, maybe we'll get it rolling at the right time

how is he a tweener? do you even know what that means? a tweener is someone who can't play either of 2 positions well. smith is excellent at PF and crap at SF

btw monroe is more of a traditional tweener. too crappy on help D to play center and too slow to guard PFs

If Smith plays smart, he can be a useful SF.
We've seen smart and stupid smith this season and what happens with both.

Lol... so you think they are gonna wait that long to extend drummond? please bro, they need the cap flexibility. their cap space year has come and gone with josh smith and brandon jennings.

also, this team is losing in a variety.. not just by 4th quarter losses (i.e. look at their most recent losses). what's your goal for this team? to be stuck in mediocre ville?

in regards to your "How is adding more youth the answer to anything?" please look at drummond and ask yourself that question again. this team would be far better of a position had they tried to acquire one of the top players in the 2014 draft.
