Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Post#1 » by nickforthreee » Mon Dec 30, 2013 10:56 pm

curious what piston fans think of KCP. i was a fan of his in college and havent watched many piston games. its odd to me that he was known as a lights out shooter and volume scorer in college, but on the pistons hes become a defensive specialist. his offense has definitely started off slowly but its hard for him to get shots up on this squad. if his offense can return to his college level and his defense can be as good as it has been he could be a really nice player for years to come, what do u guys think?

You pretty much just answered your own question and stated how most Pistons fans feel about him.

Like DP said, you've basically covered what us fans think.
It's unfortunate that our team basically ignores him on offense, but on the other hand he hasn't made the most of the few opportunities he's had.
I think he'll be fine long term, he just needs to be confident and he needs to keep defending well.

He's an above average defensive player I'd say. Still not strong enough, and he doesn't know the tendencies of other players very well yet. But he's a rookie, he has time. He needs to start knocking down open shots though....most of his attempts are spot up threes or in transition. I think he's a significantly better shooter than he's shown so far.

I want to see him get some iso chances, I also think if we had more ball movement he would get more shots because he can get open without the ball. It wouldn't hurt for him to learn how to use a pump-fake and then drive to the paint for a floater or something.

It's too early to form a long term opinion on him. In all fairness.

But, if we were doing the draft again today, I'd certainly take MCW, The Greek Freak, Trey Burke, CJ McCollum over him. Maybe even Tony Snell.

He's a rookie who's starting maybe his 16th NBA game, He's played well on defense at times.. He's a catch & shoot guy, Jump shooters go cold sometimes.

i showed KCP this before the game started
i dont think he realizes that like all rookies, he wont get any better than he is right now and when he came into the league he was going to easily transition to playing with the best in the world (again, like all rookies)

KCP is a god. I'll use a random sample size: tonight's game.

Yeah he played well today but really fizzled out in the second half. He will be a really quality player once he gets more consistent with that jumper.

He barely played the 3rd if at all and in the 4th, Smith and Jennings turned on chuck mode. KCP got like 2 shots in the 4th if I recall.

its really frustrating watching josh smith never pass to KCP when he is wide open and instead either chucking up a brick or turning the ball over.

He could be a decent role player. I'm not expecting much more than that.

He needs to be sat down for five games - put him in dress clothes and give him a break. He always seemed to struggle early at each next level but then the light would go off - maybe giving him a mid-season break would be exactly what the doctor would order with KCP here.

He takes a break on offense for the season since they don't pass to him.

^They don't pass to him because he'll jack it up and won't score.

It's a chicken or the egg situation...

I'm worried he's one of those players who really needs the ball in his hands at all times to get into the rhythm he needs to be a good scorer, yet he's not good enough to warrant having the ball in his hands at all times.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.
