Dumars did the impossible

Post#1 » by davidvolumes » Thu Jan 23, 2014 8:07 pm

Found a coach who is as bad or worst than Lawrence Frank. Common denominator is our gm. Relieve Joe of gm duties immediately. No more trades for Joe. Cheeks soon to follow.

I honestly am afraid Joe might do a desperate trade to save his job and by losing our young assets plus picks.

Gores needs to admit that he was wrong by calling for a playoff run or bust and get a new younger GM who can follow the trend of the current NBA game.

Monroe is struggling through a tough season as he adjusts to playing power forward after playing center for his entire career.

After being an offensive focal point, he has to share more with a team that’s more talented — although it hasn’t shown in the record.

“That’s probably been the main thing,” Monroe said. “I kind of need the ball to get a rhythm. That’s how it’s always been, so it’s been a little tough — especially when guys have it going. You don’t want to interrupt that, so it’s kind of a rough area for me, really.”

Coach Maurice Cheeks suggested Monroe might want to ask point guard Brandon Jennings for more touches.

Monroe said that’s not his style: “Nah, I’ve never done that. ... It’s tough to go there and say that.”

Why don't you tell Jennings to give Monroe or Drummond more touches you dumb ass coach, This guy is unreal.

No he shouldn't. Expecting a playoff birth by his 3rd year of ownership isn't unreasonable.

This is pretty much my stance on Dumars. He needs to be relieved, whether that's letting him walk at the end of his contract, or firing him now, it needs to be done.

The new GM needs to be allowed to fire Cheeks and hire his own coach as well.

Trading Monroe/Smith/Anyone isn't going to fix this team, it isn't going to move the needle at all.

In a vaccum, yes...it's not unreasonable to expect a playoff birth within 3 years especially in a conference where 3 teams have winning records. However, it's not worth sacrificing long-term success to have some short-term success.

Frank is a god-send compared to cheeks.

This guy actually said (as mentioned by a poster previously) that monroe should ask jennings for more touches.

Im sorry but what was cheeks job again? I swear coaches are supposed to Coach?

That's why it all falls on Joe. Hes never wanted to do a proper rebuild, only "retool." If That's what you want call his terrible signings going back to 2009.

The only thing I can fault Gores for is leaving Dumars in as a lame duck.

Notice how the Pistons success came with good (maybe even great) coaches - Brown and Carlisle? All of our coaches since then have sucked big time. I bet if Carlisle was coaching the current team he be several games over 500. Smith isn't a horrible player - but he is just doing things (like shooting jump shots) that he shouldn't be doing. Need a better coach. And if the GM can't hire good coaches, then we need a new GM.

Tough to say for sure whether or not the playoff expectation pressured Joe into making those moves. If it did, Gores deserves blame. Don't get me wrong though, I still think Joe D should be let go after the season regardless barring a miraculous turnaround in which Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings have an epiphany and decide to fix everything wrong with their games.

I don't really agree with blaming Gores for pressuring Joe. Do you think the results would have been any different if Joe didn't trade this years(possibly) pick to get rid of Gordon, not have the capspace this year, and did nothing? That's exactly what Dumars did last year aside from the Gordon trade, and the results were no different than the previous 3.

There was going to be a time when Dumars faced pressure, it just so happens to be this year. This team was a that badly needed a few vets that could still go, and he went after all the wrong ones. That Petrie comparison someone in the general board rings true, time may have passed Dumars by.

When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately thought Dumars traded for another PF/C.

I'm officially starting the "Dumars trades Stuckey for (fill in the blank with a PF/C with a bad contract)" countdown.

As a PG, you're supposed to be the true leader on the floor. Cheeks was as a player. He's trying to make Jennings that way. The problem is, Jennings needs to play well before he can be deemed a leader.

Part of both a coach and point guard's job is dictating where the ball goes - Cheeks to give word to his players where to work the ball (it's this thing called strategy) and Jennings to give his teammates the ball where they are most effective.

It's really not Monroe's job to demand the ball. Cheeks needs to put on his man pants and actually make a leadership decision for a change.

Cheeks needs to be handed a ballot every night that says:

Pick 1 of: Jennings, Stuckey, Bynum

Pick 2 of: KCP, Singler, Datome, Billups

Pick 2 of: Drummond, Monroe, Smith

We could very well lose the next 4 games , I'm hoping we do . It would help us gain some ground on the number 8 pick, and hopefully, be the tipping point for gore to fire Joe and by extension Cheeks.
