The 2014 NBA Draft Thread

As of now, we are sitting with the 10th worst record in the league- so barring any lottery luck- our top 10 pick is headed to Charlotte. That being said, given how terrible this team is, there is a real shot that we will ultimately end up with a top 8 pick.

Here are the top 5 guys I'm into right now

1) F- Jabari Parker
2) F- Andrew Wiggins
3) G- Dante Exum
4) F- Rodney Hood
5) G- Zach Levine

I definitely do not want

1) G- Marcus Smart
2) F-Dario Saric

If we do keep our pick this next draft we have another shot to add another value member to our core. We need a SF, preferably one that can shoot but if not- then Id want to go BPA.

So do you prefer another PF  before a pretty good defensive guard like Smart? Hell no way, the Pistons fans deserve all the suffering we got.

Brain fart, I meant Jabari Parker! But, if we were left with a pool of players that were all PF/C- Id take any of them over Smart. Smart is destined to bust IMO, wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

We'll probably be out of the Randle, Parker, and Wiggins sweepstakes if we do actually keep our pick.

I would love to get Exum though. He seems to have a lot of potential for a guy who is that tall and with ballhandling.

Knowing us, we'll miss the playoffs and then go on a 5 game winning streak to end up with the 9th worst record and lose our pick.

As far as the draft goes, Parker/Embiid/Exum/Wiggins are my favorite guys in that order right now.

Really, this draft is deep at PF/C. Unless we get a really high pick, I guess it wouldn't hurt to miss out on this draft class.

Top-5 talents I'm interested in on the wings:

1) SF Wiggins
2) SF Parker
3) SG Exum
4) Still not sure if Gordon projects better at SF or PF

Outside of that, the rest of the top-10 are PF's or C's - and PG/SG Smart (who I also do not care for).

And I'm not entirely high on the other wings that are being talked about later in the 1st round:

SG Harris
SF/PF Saric (SF in a PF's body)
SF Hood
SF James Young
SF Grant
SG LaVine
SG Selden
Both SG Harrison twins

We're not going to finish below Milwaukee, Utah, Orlando, Philly, a Kobe-less Lakers, Sacramento or Boston - so we have a small as hell window at #8 and that's if NYK, Cleveland, Charlotte and NO don't outright tank as a strategy either.

I wish there was more information on Dante Exum. All I know is that he's playing in an Australian league- one in which Johnny Flynn is one of the best players. So, there's that.

I know he's big for a PG, like MCW. Which is enticing. Too bad we won't get to see a year of him in college.

I'd like to talk about the upcoming draft more, but I can't shake the feeling that the #9 or #10 pick is heading to Charlotte via Joe Dumars employment.

Is this where us MSU fans should go nuts over Harris?

Or

Is this the thread where I read that Dumars MUST take GRobIII if he wants to keep his job. Of course thats assuming Stoukous doesnt go pro...

I so cant wait untill Saturday night when UofM players are exposed for being the JV team.

I would love McAdoo or Appling in the 2nd rd.

Unless GRIII has an awesome tournament or some real clutch moments against our rivals, we won't be as insanely attached to him as we are to Burke. In any event, we already have our SG in KCP, and Nik probably won't go pro. If he does go pro, it's because he isn't a 2nd round prospect, in which case we shouldn't bother. We don't have a real need for any local products like we did last year. If GRIII could shoot worth a d@mn he'd be a good fit for us though, and unselfish, athletic SF.

In any event, Keith has improved massively. He's a bit short, and we've got enough PGs as it is, but hopefully CB1 retires to move into the freshly cleaned out front office and Bynum goes elsewhere (love the guy anyways). Then we'd have room.

I think Sacramento could easily pass us. Our defense is terrible. Look at the teams that are dropping 100+ points on us night after night. Awful. Anyway, the Charlotte board is getting nervous, and they should be.

Couldn't agree more on the DO NOT WANT guys. Smart is Stuckey 2.0, Saric simply doesn't have the athleticism. He was hardly getting projected to go in the lottery in the last draft, what makes anyone think he's any good in this one?

I'm not that high on Parker and Hood personally. I know they're scoring like mad, but I don't think that they're 'special' players in the NBA. Maybe I'm just a bigger Duke hater than I realized. IDK, still like Wiggins more. Better athlete, potential is there, playing in a poor system to showcase himself.

LaVine is great but he's short and we've got KCP already.

Exum is an international man of mystery.

Embiid is the best prospect IMO. I'd take him even though we have Drummond, use him as trade bait after developing him/showcasing him (under a new regime/coaching staff, presumably without JSmoove eating up all the shot attempts).

I'd also like to say that I'm not a fan of Randle or Gordon. Gordon has absurdly poor shooting and offensive skills for a guy who thinks he's a SF IMO. Randle doesn't have the right physical profile to succeed given his athleticism and poor jumper.

I like Vonleh a lot more. If we dump Moose and JSmoove go for Noah. Dude's been showing off 3 point range recently, but can play inside. A poor man's Sheed without the techs.

Top of my wishlist - Kyle Anderson and Jordan Adams. Really do not understand why Anderson in particular isn't rated higher. Projected as a mid-second rounder by most at this stage. Should be a lottery lock IMO, along with Adams. Would be very happy if we could somehow snag both of them (not 100% sure that either will come out this year though).

I dont know if know this but there is a 1 yr old thread started by a U of M fan who wanted Stouskus over KCP and another that is 2 yrs old that wanted him over Drummond. So dont bring logic or intelligence into this. UofM fan wants the Pistons to bring in every UofM player that has a good game. Every UofM starter will get his own draft thread. However none of them are good enough to make the MSU team but somehow should be Pistons.

Its not new i have had UofM fan tell me Rumeal Robinson was better than Isiah and Loy Vought was better than K Malone. Ill read about how McGeary is already better than Griffen and has the potential to be better than Duncan in about 16 months.

Considering that Nik is only a sophomore I highly doubt someone was advocating that we draft him over Drummond when Nik wasn't eligible. You're being absurd because you hate UM.

And come on, Burke would have started at MSU. McGary would be starting at MSU, if healthy, moving Payne to PF. GRIII would be starting over Dawson. LeVert might even start over Dawson too, since he can shoot the ball from deep and plays solid defense. You're being the worst sort of homer if you think otherwise.

Shame the Pistons won't have a shot at Payne though, he'd be a great fit. A stretch four who actually tries? Yes please. But he'd be a huge reach in the high lottery, and won't fall to our second round pick.

I'd like these guys if the Pistons could miraculously trade for a draft pick late in the lotto or the 2nd half of the 1st round.

Olivier Hanlan
Montrezl Harrell
Doug McDermott
Jordan Clarkson
