all things Jonas Jerebko

Post#1 » by coolness » Mon Jan 27, 2014 12:07 am

my take
* has no place on this roster
* has no place in our future
* has recovered ok from the Achilles tear, so his athleticism isn't bad
* always had some skills other than hustle
* has gradually extended shooting range in his career
* could keep extending shooting range and become a stretch sf/pf - important role these days
* could have most of his career ahead of him
* his $4.5 million owed next year is a pain
* might actually opt out for a long-term deal
* might actually opt out to have a chance at minutes (one year deal then hopefully a raise)
* (for fun) might be a better starting small forward than Smoove (ok, that wasn't for fun)

I know alot of people around here dont like him but I dont see anything wrong with him getting some consistent minutes at sf,give him 1 more chance with consistent minutes and you never know.I wish we would give gigi consistent minutes so we can see what we truly have and decide who to let go between him and jonas.

He's too slow and awkward now. All his pump-fake 2 step dribble stuff is just too slow and awkward. He also turns the ball over a lot. The Jerebko we experienced during his rookie season is gone. He's been replaced by a slower, more timid version of himself who only wants to shoot, and doesn't go to the hoop anymore. Rookie Jerebko would be a great role player to have, but he simply doesn't exist anymore.

People have to earn minutes or get lucky on minutes, but minutes will help any player. Some more than others. I think all of your TRUE statements might be erased if he got into a groove. That said, I want him off the team and always try to sneak him into my fanboy trades. Hopefully for me, he opts out and goes to the West.

I'd gladly trade Smith for an expiring and let JJ play some SF along with Singler... Those two could split 24 MPG at the SF spot and I'd be more than happy having two SF's who can shoot the ball.

He went away from what he was good at (cutting and hustling). It might have been a product of the achillies injury, but its very unfortunate.

He's caught in a numbers game both for his position and skill set.

The killer is his decision making. He takes chances and forces the action. Usually, that isn't bad in a bench player. On this team, we've got so many rotation players that have a similar mentality that he gets lost in the shuffle. Somebody needs to just play fundamentally solid basketball, which is why singler is soaking up all the backup SF minutes and even some of the PF minutes.

I think he was a nice role player in his rookie season. His injury robbed him a little bit of his explosiveness, and he also tried to become too much, if you get what I mean. He plays like he wants to be a star, but he's not nearly talented enough to achieve it.

Sure, he definitely hasn't had a lot of opportunity the last couple seasons. But, that's usually for a reason.

Jerebko had a place in the NBA as an energy guy. At some point he saw himself as a highly skilled player and stopped hustling, experiment is over. Dude is done.

I can't really complain about Jerebko when he's only averaging 8 minutes a game. And in those 8 minutes, he's still really productive. He's actually posting his best TS% of his career. He's 9-21 from three point range, and 19/26 from within 8 feet. That's actually all but 18 of his shots this season.

I cannot discern anything seriously different about Jerebko's game from this year to previous years. His rebounding rate is almost exactly the same, his steal rate is almost the same as his career, and the only thing that's changed is an unusually high turnover rate, which much like the three point shooting is probably a product of small sample sizes.

Basically, Jerebko is still doing Jerebko things. I'd rather have him playing that Smith, easily.

I would like to see jerebko get some of Smiths minutes, but that'll never happen with cheeks.

Exactly. He had a really good rookie season. Dude was pure hustle, and that's why he found a place in the rotation. I think at one point he even had a game where he went perfect from the field for 20 points.

Why he got away from that? No idea...maybe he fell in love with the jumper.

Trade him to Utah, for Brandon Rush. Rush is a guy I wanted last year, and if we are building around Drummond I think he would be a great pick up for us.

Both the Nets and Hawks received Disabled Player Exemptions of $5.25 million... if I were Joe D., I'd be talking about trading him for a 2nd round draft pick... even if it's in 2015. Jonas is a guy who tends to revert back to a one-way player. He has one of the slowest releases in the NBA. Would like to see him get a fresh start with another team. Seems like a nice young man.

Yuck.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.
