I think we all need to prepare for losing Monroe without compensation in the offseason. It's the next logical step in this teams fail parade.

I listened to it a second time to make sure, it sounds like Woj said Cheeks is only on a 2 year deal.

If we matchany four year max deal - how soon then could we trade him? It's just that we can't trade him to his offer sheet team for a year right? But all others he could be traded as soon as mid-season. If that's the case, no way Pistons don't match a max offer and let him walk - no matter how inept Gores and Dumars are.

This is in line with what I remember from when the deal was made.

As much as I don't want to see moose go I have a feeling he will be moved in the next couple of weeks.

To be honest at this point the least likely scenario for me is his still being on the team on opening day next season.
He's either being moved now or we're losing him for nothing in the offseason.

Trading Moose was always the exit strategy if the Smith signing didn't work out.
I personally think that buying low on Smith would be a better option for some teams, but obviously we are not going to convince any other fan base that is true.

If we simply let him go for nothing, the entire FO needs to be replaced. I personally won't watch a team headlined by Jennings/Smith while we let Monroe walk and slow down Drummond's development.

I'm watching the videos from the Cheeks press conference right now to find out. I could've SWORN Dumars said it was a 3 year deal with an option for a 4th... I'd be so happy if it was only a 2 year deal though. We could fire him next year and sign Hollins. SUCCESS!

I'm of the opinion that the front office of basketball operations has been needed to clear out for a number of years.

Isn't coaching for the Pistons almost inevitably a two-year deal?

If Cheeks is lucky. He's looking every bit the 'one and done' coach.

Woj said they aren't going to let another team steal him for nothing. He also said they aren't going to give him anything close to the max. So, deductive logic says he's likely being traded in the next coming weeks to the highest bidder.

No way we lose Monroe for nothing. Sign and trade, trade before he becomes a free agent, match another offer, etc, etc. Now it may be inevitable that he wants to play center, and he sees that Drummond has that position locked down, and he has made his mind up to move. But if he works with the Pistons on a sign/trade he can maximize his payoff, and Pistons would get something in return.
All that being said, I'd prefer to trade him now before the trade deadline - help our tank.

Smith and Monroe to Milwaukee for Caron Butler (expiring) and John Henson?

yeah if they aren't planning on paying him, then they will either trade him now or in a sign and trade this summer. The odds of getting a favorable deal in a sign and trade, when you are at another teams mercy, are not good though. So I have a hard time seeing the Pistons going that route. Unless Gores decides he's not going to allow Joe to make anymore major decisions, and he rather just wait it out until the new GM comes in. But to me if you are going that route you need to do it now, and let that new GM have a chance to trade Monroe now for the best possible return package. Otherwise you are kinda setting up your next GM to fail on his first major deal. As he will end up just getting the other teams garbage for Monroe in a sign and trade.
My best best is that Gores does let Joe make this trade now, whether he plans on keeping him as his GM or not, and just tells him to take the best possible package offered. Knowing even that is better than waiting for a sign and trade.
I would be surprised if Monroe is not traded by Feb 20th. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the whole team were traded (besides Drummond). I could see them doing a major overhaul here with all the trade assets they've accumulated.
