Not being out tanked by a team who lost 26 straight is impressive. Congrats on a new owner as well.

Something tells me they'll be atop this list next year as well.

Will they be the new Cavs or will they take a bigger leap next year with a top 5 pick in their pocket?

4. 10 WA
Boston went HARD at the end of the season. Even Rondo was throwing the ball away late. I think they either trade Rondo or trade this pick.

It would all be for naught if Jabari stays in school.


6. 12 WA
Gotta be disappointed if you're a lakers fan. One minute you're 4th. 2 meaningless wins later and you're sitting at #6. I doubt they're back in the lottery again anytime soon.

JUST bad enough to edge us out for that hallowed 7th spot. They're one or two spots above us every year. However, this year, I think they go after that Cousins compliment (Vonleh or Randle)

8. 13 WA
$80 million and a year later...and we have the same record!!!!!!! Congrats Pistons, you did it! Also a 17.6% chance to lose this pick. The wait is on til May 20th.

Unfortunately there is no way we lose to Orlando tomorrow. I think anything more than 15 wins the rest of the season and we finish outside the top eight picks.

With a win at home, the Jazz drop a spot and break their tie with the kings. This was a good win for us IMO.

Nice work Combo. Barring a trade, I'm confident that all the thought and hard work Joe put into constructing this uniquely balanced roster will be rewarded with a top 8 pick. We have to be careful though. I think even trading something for nothing could steer the tank off course.

I just can't get over how we spent so much in the offseason for "big" names only to be right back where we were last year or actually worse.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious?

Oh and I'm for tanking at this point, we're looking good so far.

Sacramento has been decent sense the rudy gay trade but becaise of the west strong records they still have a chance at the lottery and even if not that a good pick. The guy strikes me as not similiar to joe just trying to get moveable pieces

Pistons need to go to operation shut down and I am hoping for sooner than later. This team sucks right now. Cheeks needs to bench Smith or Monroe from the SL now.

I want this team to tank, but I really don't think they're trying to tank. They're probably just that bad. And, a real experiment in what two bad locker room guys like Jennings and Smith can do to a developing team.

Odds are this team gets a bunch of meaningless wins, like the last couple seasons, and loses their pick in a last ditch race to snag the 8th pick.

Given you can't really have a conspiracy to tank ie owner, gm, coach and players all decide to lose - league would go ape **** and you know it would come out, the only way to do this would be people "lone wolf" the tank job, each deciding to do it and acting alone towards that goal. However Dumars, Cheeks are striving to keep their jobs and all the players are youngsters or playing for their next contracts.

Only one person I believe could choose to tank and go about doing it and that would be Gores. He could make moves mid-season that could be seen as reasonable and defensible and that would be to fire Joe Dumars now. I think that would send this team into a tailspin in that it would make Cheeks a lame duck so any conflict in there would be magnified 10x, it would also negatively impact the youngsters Dumars drafted recently as he's their point man in the org - Drummond is always talking about the team being a family and all that jazz. Stuckey would decide to hero ball it because he's surely gone as Dumars might have overpaid him to stay, but he doesn't want another new coach, and a new GM and rebuild when he's completely free to leave as a UFA and at best is looking at a MLE contract and 6th man spot and should have a decent amount of play-off team suitors.

Great thread CGC as per your usual but im disappointed in the ignoring of using my absolute fave phrase "Tank commander". You could have fit it in somewhere (thats what she said).

To give you an example you are Jennings to "tank commanders" Monroe/Drummond right now. lol

The Kings, Cavs and Jazz could all pass us. Kings would already be there except Gay and Cousins have sat with minor injuries (maybe phantom injuries?). Also, I think Kobe will come back and f--k up the Lakers tanking.

We aren't getting a top pick. If we even keep our pick at all it will more likely be another 7-8 type and end up with another Knight, Monroe, KCP caliber player.

The whole idea of tanking to me makes no sense. Thinking you can just lose and you'll get a superstar who will immediately turn you into championship team is all myth. Look at Cleveland in 2003. They tanked for LeBron thinking that way, and it ended taking him 9 years to win his first championship and it wasn't even with Cleveland. And that was arguably the best player of all time. So whats are the odds of one of these players who aren't as good as LeBron leading a team to a championship anytimew soon, and even doing it for the team who drafts them?

The point is you can build a championship team in way less time than that through shrewd trading and FA signings. So I don't understand the tanking model. Look at all the championship teams of the post-Jordan era. The only one that went the tanking route for top picks were the Spurs.

The Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, Mavericks, and Heat all built their teams through mid-lotto picks, trades, and FA. (Kobe was the 13th pick, Pierce was the 10th pick, Dirk was the 9th pick, Wade was the 5th pick). So where's the proof that tanking for top picks is the way to go? Sorry to be the tank grinch lol, but I just don't see anything positive in following this method. OKC is going on their 7th season since tanking for Durant and they still have no championship. So if you're telling me we have to lose all of our games this year, and then wait another 7-9 years before winning our next championship (and that's assuming we even get a Durant or LeBron in the draft which is unlikely), I have no interest in signing up for that deal. In my opinion we've already done that and gotten our franchise player in Drummond. Now its time to build around him through shrewd trades and FA signings, and we have the trade assets to get started on that right now. Making trades over the next month and getting one of those 5th or 6th seeds & winning a series this year is the wiser method to follow, in my opinion.

"How can people get excited about getting the next KCP?" Right, because in a far better draft the best we would get it KCP. And even if all we can get is a PG/SF player that is Athletic, has proven he can make a shot (but still needs a few years to put it together on the NBA level), and plays his ass off on DEFENSE, I would gladly tank this season away.

This draft is only better at the top, but once you get to the 7-8 range you are looking at the same caliber of players in any other draft, and that's the point.

You say you would gladly tank the season for an athletic, shot making defender, but why? You don't think you can get that player in trades or FA this summer? I don't know about you, but if I can get the same player and have him proven NBA ready to contribute and not have to lose every game to get him, I'll take that over a rookie who needs years to get to that same level and have to ruin the franchise with another lotto season in the process.
