Detroit could end up the 3rd seed!

Post#1 » by jaredtyshaf » Tue Feb 11, 2014 7:03 pm

It is pretty crazy is only five games back from the 3rd seed in the east. This season has went worse than even the most skeptical posters predicted. We actually have an opportunity to get some great playoff experience for our young players and get them used to the level of play that happens in the playoffs.

Not facing Indiana or Miami in round 1 is a very realistic goal and no other eastern conference team is a "lock" to beat us in 7 games.

So stop praying for a tank season and start rooting for us to get in the post season!

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I don't see it. Toronto and Washington has a better team than us. The highest realistic seed for us is the 5th.

As long as we get at least a 6th seed then we have a great chance at getting out of the 1st round. Seeing as were better on the road then we are at home all we got to do is not get the 7th or 8th seed.

I think our roster is the best of the East after Pacers and Heat.

I can kinda see the Wizards clearly being better than us because of Wall, but I think by the end of the season we may very well be a better team than the Raptors.

Whoa there, take it easy. Jennings will revert back to his normal self soon enough. Then let's see how this team fares. He's having one of his hot streaks at the moment, but it won't last.

The East is sooooooo bad though! We have as good a chance as any for the 3rd seed.

If we finish 3rd, John Loyer will have "Interim" removed from his current job title.

And you know what? I'm damn fine with that! Who would've thought that Jeff Hornacek would have the success he's had with the Suns? There are always under-the-radar options of head coaching candidates who have just never gotten their chance (heck, that's how the Pacers wound up with Vogel!). If we've stumbled upon a diamond in the rough and Loyer develops our young players and gets the best out of them, well, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Idk why people are so excited after beating a Spurs team minus Leonard and Ginobli

I agree on the Wizards -- if they can avoid injury, they have enough depth and talent to probably stay ahead of us if we stay hot. The Raptors on the other hand may decide to sell off some major pieces prior to the trade deadline. They're in a tough spot (between wanting to continue the rebuild and give the fans something to cheer for) and may win up bailing if they hit a rough patch in the next few weeks.

Its not about beating the Spurs.....

We are only 5 games back from the 3rd seed and anything can happen the second half of the season. I guess we always need a few humdrum posters in every thread though.

the spurs are a western conference playoff team no matter who they put out there, and we made them look extremely uncomfortable and disorganized, two things the spurs almost never look. that's encouraging.

if they could play with the same effort and unselfishness that they did for the first 3 quarters last night for the rest of the year I don't think a 5 or 6 seed would be out of the question. but, with this group of boneheads its not very likely. the Spurs game was probably just a FU to Cheeks, they'll fall back to the norm sooner rather than later.

Thibs, Hornacek, Vogel, Spoelstra, Clifford, and Stevens.

There are a lot out there.

We've looked good in 6 of the last 7 games, winning 5 and losing a close one to the Heat, that's a damn good reason to be optimistic. We also have the best opportunity of the several teams to improve by trade before the deadline. I'm rooting for a home court series and I don't think it's unrealistic at all.

I have no problem with the even keeled, wait and see approach…

But let's look at the underlying premise of the season:

That you can take a bunch of talent and throw it together, and you don't need good decision-making, because it will all work itself out.
- Coach cheeks was known as a motivator, not a strategic decision maker, and he came in with a losing coaching record.
- Brandon Jennings, the point guard was known for being talented but questionable in his decision-making.
- Josh Smith, the small forward was known for being talented but questionable in his decision-making.

So, we can all see that that experiment has already failed.

So, logically if the new coach brings any upgrade AT ALL in decision-making ability, with the same talent available, I think it's pretty okay to be optimistic because better decision-making can improve the output of the talent
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!
