Fire Loyer!!

Post#1 » by imagump1313 » Thu Feb 13, 2014 4:19 am

Sorry, it was too funny to pass up :D

Seriously though, I don't see the point of Loyer other than to just ride out the season because they won't (or can't) hire anyone else now. Loyer has already said in many interviews that he isn't going to change anything or do anything different than Cheeks. I gave it a shot against the Spurs but even though they won the game, you could still see all the stupid mistakes that have plagued them all year with no accountability. No one seems to notice these things when they win against a gassed or inferior opponent.

Where did he say he wasn't going to do anything differently from Cheeks?

If that's true, he's got no interest in being our head coach long term. If we wanted someone to do the same things Mo has done, we'd have kept him.

I believe what he said was he wasn't going to change who he was, but he would look to tweak some thing over the week off.

Obviously no coach can reverse all of the bad habits laid by Cheeks in 3 days. So its not surprising to see the same mistakes still. The effort has definitely increased though, I'll give him that

Gores wants Izzo. I'm all for that but I don't see Izzo leaving MSU. I think by the time we get an interview with him, Hollins will be hired by another team.

My only issue with Loyer: Playing Bynum.

Don't want Loyers because he's not much better than Cheeks. Don't want Izzo because this isn't College Basketball

So far I like Loyer, he needs to keep Jerebko and Bynum on the bench though and get Singler out of the starting lineup.

That idea is beyond a long shot. Izzo has all of zero reasons to leave MSU. He can stay there, still make millions and not worry about his job from season to season based on short term success.

It's the same reason you'll never see coach K in the NBA.

"Obviously no coach can reverse all of the bad habits laid by Cheeks in 3 days."

The bad habits have been here for several years now. Cheeks didn't fix them, but he certainly isn't the root cause.

He was on the radio here with Matt Dery 105.1 the day after he was hired. He was asked about changing rotations and other things and he basically said he was going to do everything the way they were already doing it.

He spewed out all the traditional phrases: "we need to play better defense", "I'm going to be the same guy", "everyone needs to play harder", "we need to communicate" ...etc.

you can listen to the entire snoozer interview here: http://www.detroitsports1051.com/mattdery/2014/02/10/the-diesel-talks-with-new-pistons-head-coach-john-loyer#.Uvz_6rQl-So

This.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I woulda hired Hollins in a Temp Coach position and tell him, if you can make this team a playoff team, then we will give you X contract.

Izzo's program is in decline and the cupboard looks like it's going to really be bare for the next season or two. For those reasons, I think it's possible.

In decline huh? They are consistently one of the best teams in the country. He goes to a Final Four at least every four years. MSU is nowhere close to on a decline, that's just silly

My thought is that if Phil Jackson is willing to take on a new coaching gig that he will start before this summer, before the free agency period begins. I believe having him as coach with the present lineup, it will attract a number of free agents. The one I would have my eye on would be Lebron James. This would either allow Lebron James (6’8’’ 250 lbs) and Josh Smith (6’9’’ 225 lbs) to cover the forward spots. Lebron wants a new challenge and is aware of the rust on Wade’s body will only continue to get worse, and Bosh has always been considered the lesser of the “Big 3”. Additionally, expect veteran players who want a championship before retiring to come begging at a low cost. Ray Allen may be a nice addition for the veteran minimum. Through the years, each championship team has had a combination of veterans and rookies/young players.

LeBron/Phil Jackson are not coming here.

Is this sarcasm?

I haven't seen Drummond touch the ball at all and KCP/Mitchell have APB's out on their names lol

Loyer is literally worse than Cheeks. The defense has reverted back to the same ol' but the offense has become much worse, and Drummond is involved even less in the offense it seems.

This guy has no experience at all coaching. I have no idea why the Pistons are not hiring Hollins.
