Team Has No Direction

Honestly, we haven't had a direction in forever. Honestly, we should have been in strict rebuild mode the last 5-6 years, but Dumars keeps trying to quick-fix us and re-tool us to be a borderline playoff team each year, but we fail at that. All we've been able to accomplish has been a bad version of mediocrity. We're bad enough that watching our games is more painful than it is entertaining -- yet good enough to never have a top-5 draft pick.

Then this year we have assets that teams in contention could/should get from us for pennies on the dollar (JSmoove, Jennings, Datome, Bynum, Jerebko) --- yet nothing.

And we also have guys that teams looking to shed salary would want -- CV

And we even have a guy who is the combination of both - a good player and an expiring, in Stuckey.

Yet we didn't do anything - AGAIN. NOTHING!! I mean, more than doing nothing, we didn't even try to do anything. We just don't care.

I would be happy to see the Palace completely empty the rest of this season, as impossible as I know that is. But unfortunately, that may be the only way to truly express how mad I am at the moment (sorry, I go thru this EVERY deadline it seems).

Sorry for my rant, feel slightly better now.

Well, Pete, this rant is justified.

Literally nothing happened and all likelihood end up in no man's land with no pick nor playoff direction.

I do think we can get our pick as teams below are playing better

Guess we will see the direction this summer with the new coach and what they do with the cap space.

No big names moved, I'm ok with not adding future salary.

A shooter would of been nice but it wasn't going to fix our defense.

Its funny how the question earlier in the year was about whether they would be buyers or sellers, and they do absolutely nothing.

Another thing that's gone unsaid that pisses me off is how we went into the season with a full 15 man roster, so even when guys became available that we could've used like Kendall Marshall, Barbosa, etc we left ourselves no roster room to sign them. Just poor management. wtf did we need to resign Bynum for?

Ill say this till the end of the season and until Dumars gets fired.

We not only didnt need Bynum, we didnt need Billups or Datome

Paying those three players 7M is HORRENDOUS.

We could have given ONE player 7M to come play for our team someone like hmmm KYLE KORVER the best 3pt shooter in the game.

We should've built around Monroe and Dre with role players from the start. It's sad that our team became to this.

Those 3 are likely the difference between making a big offer this to someone like Stephenson or to a lesser extent Gordon Hayward or Turner and having to settle for player round the MLE.

Dont forget Jerebko. Those 4 combined make 12M a year.

12 FUCCKING MILLION!

You dont think Stephenson would take 13-14M to come to Detroit?

Who would you guys rather have? Stephenson or Hayward overpaid at 13-14M or Jerebko, Bynum, Datome, Billups for 12M???

Not one national sports writer has even touched on these signings from the past offseason. Dumars should be getting dissed even more than he already is.

None of those players contribute ANYTHING to our team making it disgusting that we paid them and Charlie V 20M this year to literally contribute ZERO to our squad.

Why in the world would we fire our coach if we weren't going to hire a new one?......

Disgusting. Cheeks may have not been a great hire, or a great coach...but he was better than Loyer. A roundtable from this sub-forum could run this organization better than it has been since 2009. 100% serious.

It's obvious at this point - The Ben Gordon deal = saved money, no CV31 amnesty = saved money, no replacement coach for Cheeks = saved money, not firing Dumars = saved money.

The direction of the team is clear- make Gores money. He clearly isn't interested in committing towards building a contender, it's just add the biggest names you can, hope that excites the fans enough to come out to games and hope to make the playoffs for a few extra home games.

Actually we do have a direction...

It's called

"versatile: Positions don't matter. Stack "talent", and expect them to change from the way they've always been, while playing out of position"

This is why I have no faith in Dumars. It's not just that his moves have ended badly - you can forgive someone for swinging for the fences and failing. His entire philosophy is wrong, which is why he needs to be shown the door, FAST. It's mind boggling that he had free agency money 4 years apart - 2009 and 2013 and DID THE EXACT SAME THING BOTH TIMES!

I'm still laughing at the audacity of the Pistons saying they need more than a expiring for Smith. Dumars and Gores are the laughing stock of the league nowadays.

Dumars is already gone. Nobody is captaining this ship right now. Nobody. There is a reason why we just promoted an assistant to head coach instead of going through the hiring process of a new one. It's because we don't have a GM. There is a reason all trade rumors involving us died as soon as Cheeks was fired. It's because Dumars had his power taken away at the exact same time. This rumor about us looking to dump Smith for assets was just a plant in the press to make the few fans left think the team is trying to do something. Dumars hasn't been heard from, seen by the players or seen at the Palace since Cheeks was fired because he was unofficially fired too. Right now he is the DNP-CV of the front office. He is a big fat worthless lump of **** with a contract we are counting down the days until it expires. Once the contract is up there will be some "mutual parting of ways" or "Joe is retiring" press conference and that will be it for the Dumars era.

I wonder if now that trades are passed if we could see some changes to the starting lineup, as no more need to try and showcase anyone.

When you think about it, if a new front office is going to be in place, we really don't know what's going to happen with anything. It will be up to the new GM to decide these things. So we're basically in limbo again until then, like the ownership change all over again.
