Reuniting Smith with Rondo!!! Why not?

Very interesting Tidbit on why Smith should be Reunited with Rondo.
http://si.com/vault/article/magazine/MA ... /index.htmBibby worried that other coaches would not appreciate Rondo's genius—"You serve steak, but it's on a garbage can," Bibby told him. "Smooth it out"—and when Rondo enrolled for his senior year at famed Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., his new roommate thought he was standoffish. Then Josh Smith discovered the merits of living with a basketball savant. "My field goal percentage went way up," says Smith, now a star forward for the Hawks. "I remember one night he had 29 assists, and the next night he had 31. It was like playing with Michael Vick, and I was the only guy who could catch his passes."
I don't know why any Celtic fans wouldn't want to pair their basketball genius Rondo with an athletic talent with small offensive IQ like Smith who just needs a basketball genius to work with. They also happen to be friends from way back.
How does this not work?
So we missed the deadline. Good, hopefully we get to keep the pick. Can we get it done in the summer?
Can we get a reunion?

This would be awesome. I think everyone in Boston expected this year to suck, but I don't think Ainge wants to do this 2 years in a row. So he will be making some trades this summer to compliment his draft picks and I'm sure he expects his team to make the playoffs next year. Maybe Smith could be part of that team. Let's hope so

I feel like this has already been discussed a lot, but oh well. Josh Smith for Jeff Green straight up would be nice.

I'm optomistic for this too.
as much as I hate to say it, I think waiting for the summer was the right move. in the summer Josh Smith will have more percieved value. Because he actually does have value if he's on a team with Rondo and without Drummond and Monroe.
Rondo
Draft Superstar
Role player SF
Smith
Sullinger/Olynick
That's a pretty mean frontline - Smith Sully Olynick
If they would trade us Jeff Green & #19 for Smith that'd be a win win

If we keep our one this year, we'll send it along with a sign and trade of Monroe for Rondo. We'll buy a low one so we don't violate the rule.

I already asked the Celtics board, and most of them respectfully declined. Neither he nor Rondo can shoot, and their best prospects are power forwards as well, and are not ideal as centers. Furthermore, Smith would be accelerating their rebuild, and they don't really want to do that, because they don't think a core of Smith/Rondo/pick is getting them somewhere. They'd rather wait another year of being bad and rebuilding/developing. We should check back next year.
They'd do the trade if they could dump Wallace on us, but then we'd just be getting screwed. We'd be better off just moving him or Monroe to the bench.

Not happening, Danny Ainge is no fool.

Nobody will want Smith until Hes around the 3rd year of his deal.

Even Bill Simmons wanted a Smith for Green trade, it shouldve happened at the deadline. Maybe it will happen in the offseason. We will just be better off without Josh, and I'm sure that once Josh leaves Detroit he will be better off as well.

Smith to BOS sounds great to me. I was hoping that was at least one of the options at the time of the trade deadline but I also know Ainge is better than that. Rondo has fully embraced his role this year anyways, he hasn't said an ounce of complaint of wanting to play with anybody this year. I'm sure Ainge isn't worried about Rondo suddenly turning on him or demanding something.

The only way Smith and Rondo play together will be in Detroit. I can't see Boston matching the asking price to acquire Smith. It's a nice thought but I can't see it happening.

IBSS:
Monroe + KCP for Rondo
Boston have PFs that like to shoot from 15-18 feet.
They have Bradley to play PG or draft one (must be a Wade type in this coming draft)
Monroe, Sully, Green, KCP, Bradley and a rookie...
We be:
Drummond, Smith, Singler, FA signing, Rondo
Personally I want to build around Monroe and Drummond. Anything that moves us away from that has to be a home run otherwise I'll always wonder what might have been!
2 potential All Star bigs...on the same team...while the rest of the league plays small? Yes please!
Bill Russell once said "you make them play your game". Can we at least try that?

Would we be trading Jennings in your scenario or would he be our 6th man?

You aren't getting Rondo for Monroe and not many people outside this forum are high on KCP.
I'd do it in a heartbeat, though. Smith would be a different player at the four with Rondo.

The part that says "IBSS" is shorthand for:
In Before Someone Says.
As stated in my post I'd prefer we build around Drummond and Monroe or at least attempt to.
Signing Smith and trading Jennings were desperation moves that most here didn't see...but we're not paid to run the team.
Joe has royally screwed this team over the last 7 years. He failed to see analytics as a genuine tool that could help. He failed to acquire additional draft choices. He failed to spend wisely in free agency.... twice!
We're a treadmill team because of Joe. One would think after going through it himself he'd have seen the end coming and found a better way

We are a treadmill team because we have a clueless owner, a GM in self preservation mode for the last 5 years and an inability to attract anything beyond a retread or first time head coach.
Joe might be the public face and the easy one to blame but there's no direction because there's a failure at every level of leadership.

I agree with most everything but I truly, & im not being sarcastic here think with Monroe & Drummond in place, we could attract more than we think. Especially if you clear out the idiots, get Monroe back to his 18 & 10 ish & imagine where Drummond will be next year at this time by thinking where he was last year at this time.
You are as strong as your assets & I think we all sometimes forget we have a near All Star elite post scoring big man & a future top 3-5 player in the entire league with our other 7 footer. Both on this roster at ages 23 & 20.

THIS is why Joe should have retired last off-season.
He'd cleaned out all his garbage, put the foundations in place and had a top 10 & plenty of cap space ready to roll...
Assuming he stepped aside and the new guy managed to get us to the playoffs this year Joe would have received a lot of the credit...
Now? 99.9% of this board wants him fired! That's a massive difference to last off-season.
Imagine what Hinkie or McDonough could have done!
