Pistons tried hard to sell Josh at Deadline

Post#1 » by ComboGuardCity » Mon Feb 24, 2014 11:09 pm

Hopefully he's going to be gone in the offseason. That tells me we're not hellbent on making the playoffs.

Can't wait to see who our new gm is going to be and what kind of moves he will make.

Good to know they're on the right side of decisions for once.

I really can't wait what a new GM will do. The league is changing, very few GMs are actually forking out big money to players like Josh anymore.

According to rumors, they didn't want to just dump him for expirings.
It would have been nice if we did though because i'm sure we could have got that.

Who said we were hellbent about making the playoffs? We have the youngest starting 5 in the league(when KCP was starting). If we trade Smith hopefully we'll have something good coming back in-return.

Losing Smith is addition by subtraction though. But Im very happy that the FO realizes Smith doesn't fit, this is a sign that they are committed to Monroe. I expect Greg to be resigned this offseason

There is a 99% chance that Dumars hasn't even thought about trading Smith

Eh. Have you seen the contracts guys like Andre Igoudala, Larry Sanders, Nikola Pekovic got.

Woj described them as "dead" expiring's so that tells me they probably wouldn't have helped get the team in the playoffs. That's wouldn't enticing enough to help in a playoff push.

I believe this more than the new report about us "trying" to move JSmoove before the deadline. There were multiple reports/sources stating that we didn't try much of anything leading up to the deadline. I remember some reports mentioned crickets...when describing what they heard coming out of Detroit.

I know that activity seemed to pick up some on the last day (deadline day), but it was all probably way too little, way too late.

Sorry, but I'm not buying this one too much.

I'm sure we had discussions to trading JSmoove.....but I'm not buying the fact that we "tried hard" to deal him. Sitting on our hands until deadline day is not "trying hard."

we could have dumped him but joe got greedy and tried to get more. you are dealing from a position of weakness and desperation already, take what you can get and go from there.

Is this a new rumor/report or are you talking about the tweets from Thursday?

I really dont believe that we tried to trade Josh

I think this is Dumars planting seeds in the media before he leaves

We had
- cheap young players: Singler, Siva, Mitchell
- Expirings: Stuckey, Charlie V

If we really wanted to trade him, we could have made some sort of deal

How do you think Josh Smith feels about all this?

Obviously we didn't try hard enough because he's still here...

I have a feeling that trying hard equates to a conversation with Cleveland that went something like this:

Dumars: Umm... would you do a... Smith for Deng trade maybe?

Cleveland GM: No.

Dumars: How about Smith for expirings?

Cleveland GM: No. Just No.

Haha, I was just thinking something along those same lines:

Other GM: Hey Joe! I'll give you dead expirings and a late 1st rounder for Stuckey

Joe: Dead expirings and a late 1st for Smith?

Other GM: Um, no. Stuckey.

Joe: Sure you don't want Smith?

Other GM: No, we really want Stuckey. Rodney Stuckey.

Joe: OK, I'll trade you Smith.

Other GM: Nevermind

Didn't just want to dump him for expirings? Joe probably didn't feel right about the offer without throwing in a first rounder of ours...

Since the rumor came from Ford (who would have talked with multiple GMs) and not a local writer leads me to think that we really did try to trade Smith, but just late in the game (when all the action happens anyway).

I think the "addition by subtraction" comment was right on - need to start over and get a real SF. Smith just doesn't fit for us. Should have moved him for expirings and got the tank going a little faster.
