No buy out for CV?
Does it look like we're going to hold on to Chuckles for our "playoff push"??

It would seem that way. It felt like a buy out was picking up steam, but I suppose it was all media hype and one quote from CV-DNP.
Only in professional sports can you get paid 30+ million for doing absolutely nothing.

Well, lots of CEO's have gotten more for actually running their companies into the ground.
Not sure why they just don't cut CV though. He's not playing and he's not in our future plans. May as well cut him loose and bring in a D-league guy for a tryout.

Re: No buy out for CV?
Buying CV out or keeping him on the roster makes no difference in wins and losses at this point. The savings in buying him out are minimal. It makes the greatest sense to dump if we are looking to make culture changes right now. To me, the dude represents complacency. He has given VERY little effort in earning his salary.
He was talented scorer capable of filling the basket in all sorts of ways. He could post. He could take bigs off the dribble. He could stretch the D with his 3 pt range. He was at one point this uber talented kid out of NYC with the potential for college player of the year status. Then he underachieved at UCONN, settling for launching jumpers and not buying into Calhoun's call for max effort.
Folks made excuses for him, claiming he was better suited for the NBA game. He was drafted by the Raptors and enjoyed success as a rookie. Traded to the Bucks and enjoyed some success. This is the dude who dropped 50 early in his career! He signed a toxic contract with the Pistons and gave us nothing. He was never in shape. He never played D. His shot left him.
I'd like to see him leave us.

Loyer has been using a pretty tighttrotation recently, but i'd throw CV out there once in a way. He at least spaces the floor.

Good. He doesn't deserve it. He's trying to use this as a way to showcase for a contract.

But if you're legitmitely trying to make the playoffs (I hope this proves that they're not), shouldn't you open up the roster spot for a shooter. Any shooter. Even if it's whoever leads the D league in 3pt%?
I hope keeping him on is proof that we're going to tank it when it matters and try to keep our pick.

Re: No buy out for CV?
I think we could pick a name at random from the D-League and it would still make more sense that pretending keeping CV is a good idea.
Oddly enough I think the best fit would be Manny Harris

When Gores said we need to develop the players we have, I read that as code for "We're going to ride and die with these bums so I can use it as grounds to clean house." We could have made trades, the Sixers were giving away Turner. We could have gotten a legit coach, Lionel Hollins was campaigning for the job.
We are in clean slate mode. The owner is doing an employee performance analysis of the staff in preparation to make changes. On some levels I believe we can win and make the playoffs with what we have on the roster. The problem is guys with talent give half hearted effort, play little defense, and play reckless with the ball.
We need a face lift...a extreme total makeover.

Re: No buy out for CV?
Dumars will only buyout someone's contract if they want out of Detroit(Rip Hamilton). CV's probably using the media to get himself playing time.
We tried to give CV minutes but he couldn't catch an offensive rhythm in short minutes. I think it'll be a good idea to try again, it's not like we've been winning any games lately.

I'm disappointed that we weren't able to swap CV out for some other expiring crap at the trade deadline.

Re: No buy out for CV?
^^^He has obviously played himself out of the rotation, but he still makes teams defend him on the perimeter, so whether he's shooting well or not, Dre, Smith and Moose will have more room to work inside.
Obviously CV can't play too much, but spot minutes when the match ups suit is worth a try.

Re: No buy out for CV?
I don't want to buy him out. I have no desire to see him rewarded for being a fat, lazy POS. Buying him out let's him try to earn a contract next year. I'd rather watch him rot at the end of the pine.

Re: No buy out for CV?
My guess is CV thought a buyout would net him more than the Pistons thought he deserved to be able to go somewhere else. Honestly what team would bring in a player who got bought out by the 10th worst team in the league, who couldn't even get playing time with that team. My guess is CV wanted something upwards of 75% of the remainder of what he is due, and the Pistons just laughed.

Re: No buy out for CV?
You only buyout a contract if:
A)you need to make room on the roster to add another player.
B)You respect the player enough to want him to catch on with another team.
C)The player is such a distraction that you can't have him around anymore.
Option A is probably the case. There was no reason to spend the money on a buyout if you didn't have anyone in mind to take that roster spot. It just shows that they they were riding out the current roster all along.

I think you are right. I think the team is right back in limbo where it was when it was being sold. I would have taken a bowl of soup, or a can of beans in exchange for the expiring contracts we have. There was no excuse not to get at least something, anything for them. I would have taken a 2nd round pick in 2019 for Stucky at this point. I'm not faulting Dumars for this. I think ownership put a freeze on doing anything unless it was a crazy deal.
