Isiah Thomas to replace Joe Dumars?

Post#1 » by Paul Lord » Sat Mar 1, 2014 11:42 pm

Isiah Thomas will be back in Auburn Hills at the end of the month to help the Pistons commemorate the 25th anniversary of their first championship team. And we’re hearing that he could be in line to return to the team, a few months after the weekend festivities, for a permanent gig. League sources say that Pistons owner Tom Gores is seriously thinking of making what has been a long-overdue, front-office shakeup after the season, with Thomas recently emerging as a top candidate to take over the role of the team’s top basketball executive from his former backcourt mate, Joe Dumars.

Man, I just read this on hoopshype. Seems like the typical media speculation, I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens. I'm still rooting for Dumars to be offered another contract.

I want some no-name with a Harvard degree and a few "basketball people" around him.

If this actually happened, I would quit this team in a heartbeat. He literally destroyed the Knicks during his tenure.

But it's just silly rumors. Let's stop hiring former players please.

Lol Woodson. We'd give up more open 3's and have an even worse defense.

I'd never quit this team.

But in all fairness.. Gores needs to get in touch with his fanbase.

We need a defensive team here in Detroit. We won all 3 of our titles built on defense.

We aren't the Lakers.

Analytics are the future, just like baseball.

Most of these former players aren't schooled up enough and get shredded now in trades.

Isiah does know more than he used to though.. Listening to him on NBA TV, he is usually the smartest one in the room. Never understood why he failed so bad with NY. He does draft well.

ive been saying, we need a whole new front office, no ties to detroit or the pistons, or our current roster. start 100% fresh. get a coach who can help utilize and can teach a team around drummond. gores needs to realize he can't just spend money on any players and hope they work. he needs to just be the owner with the wallet and stay in the background.

and its looking more and more likely that won't happen.

I literally thought it was an onion joke article when I saw the headline.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

I sincerely hope Thomas is not brought in to be our new GM. I'd rather have Chauncey than Thomas. Please just be a rumor...

As for the report, Mitch Lawrence is actually kind of credible, especially when it comes to the Pistons. He seems to have some kind of source with Gores or something, because wasn't he the one who reported on Gores buying the team before anyone else, and also reported about Frank's ousting before anyone else?

So this could be a legit report.

I would be open to the idea of Isiah as GM. The part about hiring Woodson though is flat out ridiculous. If Gores hired Isiah, only to hire Mike Woodson, that would be the biggest joke ever. I see little difference between Dumars/Cheeks & Isiah/Woodson.

Isiah and Laimbeer though? hmmm...I could get down with that. Joe would never give Bill a chance, but I bet Isiah would. They are all going to be here in a few weeks for the reunion. So Laimbeer will have a chance to win over Gores and start selling himself for the job.

The one thing I like about Isiah is he's not afraid to make moves. Some may turn out bad, but scared money never wins, and Dumars has become too damn conservative when it comes to trades. Isiah would bring some respect back to this franchise again and he would be a good recruiter for FAs.

As we see in NY, that franchise is a mess with or without him, so maybe their fans were blaming the wrong person. It seems like Dolan was the biggest cause of their problems, not Zeke. He did a pretty good job discovering talent in Toronto and Indiana. A lot of those Pacers players that Larry Bird won with in 2004 were Isiah's guys.

Id be a Hornets fan until Gores sold the team if that happened, it would be the final evidence id need to know Gores is more interested in PR stunts than he is in winning basketball games.
