Rumor is the Knicks are looking to trade for a long contract for Amare Stoudemire. Why not convince them(they are the Knicks after all) to trade Stoudemire for Smith and Jennings. They might feel they could turn that into a good core for Melo. Then we get can get rid of Stoudemire and make room for signing Monroe and go after someone like Bledsoe.

The Knicks would actually come out on that trade and make Detroit look like losers. Bledsoe isn't coming to Detroit though.

If Detroit's goal was a salary dump, they could send Smith, and whoever else to NY for Amare, then amnesty Amare for an instant 20 million in cap space.

Why would we trade two talented players for an injury prone player who isn't even starting caliber anymore?

Not to be a pain, but we couldn't amnesty Amaré (you can't amnesty players you trade for); we could, however, potentially buy him out for some amount of cap space.

Variations of this trade have been kicked around before, and general consensus is that one of Hardaway Jr. or Shumpert needs to come back to us as compensation for taking Amaré. We'd obviously be leaving ourselves a big hole at PG, but seeing how many people just want Smith (and to a slightly lesser extent Jennings) gone, I imagine most posters would go for that trade.

I also agree that Bledsoe is all but un-gettable, as I can't see PHX not matching any offer for him, so I suppose we'd turn our attention to Lowry? Or maybe even draft Tyler Ennis if we keep our pick around #8? I'd love to throw Exum into the conversation too, but the only way I see us getting him is to move up exactly to #3 and have both Wiggins and Parker go ahead of our pick (no way we'd pass on either wing ourselves and no way Exum slides to us if we don't move up).

i'm a really big ennis supporter. i'd be all for getting him in the draft if we got rid of jennings. it'd be refreshing to watch a true floor general for once.

It would have to be Smith, Bynum & Jerebko for Amare, Hardaway & a future 1st.... maybe

Because we would be getting rid of two terrible players for one on a expiring deal. You have to start to understand that these guys are not good players. Right now they are cancerous players that have led us nowhere but downhill. They are easily the two biggest chuckers in the league and we have both of them on the same roster.

I would do that deal to reset on the Jennings and Smith signings. Just build around Dre since they both are prone to chucking which will inhibit Dre's growth. If that means Monroe will be gone too later, then so be it as much as I don't like idea. We need to rebuild the right way, not these stop gap, quick fixes that Joe has been doing.

I understand you guys don't like Jennings and Smith and that's cool. But you can't say someone sucks or they're terrible when one puts up 16, 7, and 4 and the other puts up 17 and 8. GM's aren't trading good players for a corpse.

Almost every player in the league could put up 16 or 17 points a game on terrible efficiency if you let them chuck away whenever they feel like it. The good players do it within the offense on less attempts and way better efficiency. Your happy with these guys destroying the offense just because they're stat line says they scored 16ppg?

Giving up too much. And besides, trading Jennings would leave us with a huge gaping hole at PG. I know he's a chucker at heart, but when we were playing respectable basketball...it was he who was playing well, not Smith. Jennings was decent in November and terrific in December (19/8).

I feel like as an organization we have failed to meet either of these guys half way, which is kind of a shame. Both need to learn not to take stupid long mid range jumpers, but we haven't done them any favors by firing our coach in the middle of the season and not hiring one who would put them in a situation to succeed in the first place, or afterwards.

The best thing this franchise could do right now is go hire Lionel Hollins. Yes this deal would net us cap space, but I have absolutely zero confidence in our ability to make good use of it.

I'm going back in forth in my mind what's going to be higher, Jennings' shooting percentage or Miguel Cabrera's on base percentage. And right now it's definitely looking like Miggy will easily win this if he just has an average season for him.
