Horribly HARSH but Accurate Expose of Pistons Defense,

Post#1 » by vic » Thu Mar 13, 2014 4:35 pm

Can this season be over?

http://www.sbnation.com/2014/3/12/54886 ... josh-smith

Bring on Tom Penn, Lionell Hollins/Bill Laimbeer, Marcus Smart/Dante Exum, and Kyle Anderson/Jordan Adams.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Pistons defense is awful. Don't need to read an article to figure that out.

Tom Penn? Seriously?

For this reason alone I think we'll make the playoffs next year. This is based on the assumption we have the athletes to play good D, just never had the coach to make the team play good D. I'm confident (maybe naively) that our new GM will get us a good coach. If we play good D, we already have the rebounding, and I'm sure we'll pick up some wing shooting as well.

I agree.
For all the s*** i give Smith and Jennigns, the right coach could get our mess of a roster to play fairly well. At least at a playoff level.
I want Hollins!!

Those are some high hopes right there. Maybe if the team was relocating to LA.

Those were some harsh constructive criticism of our frontcourt's D there. All of which shows that nearly everyone, not just one player is the reason why we're so bad. On top of having bad defensive schemes.

A definite read. I really wished we could've gotten Clifford, such a promising coach to teach the young guys and to grow with since he's relatively new.

Gores hasn't gotten his "thanks for buying a team" lotto present yet. It's our turn.

If the lottery was rigged we have the best chance to get a thank you pick as you suggested, why?

Well, the Pistons are one of the top NBA franchises and have been terrible for the past 6 years.

Gores just bought the team and hasnt been rewarded like the other owners that purchased teams (but the Kings also just got a new owner as well)

If we could somehow get a top 3 pick and move Jennings/Smith we would be an instant lock for the 4-5 seed in the East next year. But that is a huge pipe dream

The Pistons were always one of the top teams in the league in attendance during the "going to work" run. If the lotto were fixed (and the belief it is or isn't is another discussion) then I'd have to believe the league would recognize our position and the potential a Drummond-Parker/Wiggins combo would have to return basketball to prominence in the city.

The lotto may have been rigged at one point (Ewing?) but I don't think it has been since they started using this format. The process is audited by Ernst & Young.

I'm sure Josh Smith is just being lazy on defense because he's being misused. Stop hating on him, guys, he was still a smart signing.

This would be the year to cash in that ticket if he has it. A core of Drummond and Wiggins has a hell of a lot of promise.

I didn't know 13+ million in cash wouldn't be enough motivation to put his arms up!

The lack of communication is the one thing that stood out to me in the article. It's almost the root of all the problems with the team on both sides of the court. This team could work, but man, they'd need a HOF-esque coaching staff to get the most out of them, even then, the team has no alpha-male personality that could hold himself and his teammates responsible.
