I was just looking at the draft lotto machine on ESPN, and Denver has picks 10 and 12? What if we flipped them Monroe for them pre lottery? Would they even do it? There is an outside chance one of them could end up a top 3 pick.

Meh. Maybe if we actually had a shot keeping our pick at 8 or below then I might budge slightly on the mere IDEA/delusion of it since we could potentially run with our pick, 10, and 12 to maybe have a shot at the top 3 lottery. But nah, beyond 6 or 7 picks, everyone else seem to be projects or average players which with our luck, we'll be well out of that great draft pick territory.

But I still lean on keeping him regardless.

I don't think we can trade Monroe pre-draft due to his restricted free agency; I think Denver would have to pick for us twice with a trade agreement in place for after the new league year starts (which means they'd never, EVER do it if one of those picks lands in the top three).

Still, there aren't many Monroe trade ideas I'm in favor of, but I'd have to jump at this one (especially if we keep our pick, too). Surrounding Drummond with three lotto picks? Yeah, I'd pull the trigger on that.

They would never trade both of those picks unless it was for Lebron James. One pick for Monroe possibly. But he would also have to give them some sort of guarantee he would resign with them.

I doubt anyone is trading for him at this point unless he agrees to a contract. Why would you give up even one draft pick (let alone two) for someone who could walk away for nothing? I think the GM in Denver would like to keep his job.

It is in Monroe's best interest to at least do a sign/trade otherwise he's leaving a lot of money on the table. So whatever team that trades for him could be pretty sure that they would at least get something out of Monroe. Even if players don't really want to stay somewhere, if they get a chance to sign a fat "near MAx" contract, they will sign that with any team and then work out the details later on trying to force a trade to a team they really want to play for. But getting paid comes first, and getting paid the most can be done only by re-signing with your team.

They'd never do it pre-lottery because they're not going to trade a Wiggins/Parker/Randle for Monroe. Post lottery if they stay at 10 and 12 I don't think I'd do it.

You can't trade a FA , and a S&T couldn't be worked out until July. The idea simply doesn't work and IMO it would be a bad deal for Detroit even if it did work

Draft a SF and PF or trade up for a can't miss SF

Trade Smith to NY for THJ and Amare

Trade jennings for a PG that plays defense

Nobody will trade a pick under those circumstances, and the people saying Monroe can't be traded before a S & T are correct.

Unless Monroe wants to force his way to a team without enough cap space, there isn't really any way to get anything for him in a S & T either. We'd have no leverage in such a move.

We either match him, lose him, or trade him for a pittance. Those are the options, and anyone who thinks we can trade him for a key piece is kidding themselves.

You are incorrect. We can match any offers since he is a RFA, so we actually do have a LOT of leverage.

We just traded Knight and Middleton for Jennings and we had enough cap space to straight up sign Jennings. We gave up those players so Milwaukee wouldn't match the offer.

When was the last time you saw a sign and trade under these types of circumstances yield such a high quality return?

We couldn't just take draft picks from Denver. They've got a terrible cap situation and would have to send us a lot of actually players to make room for Monroe, probably including Wilson Chandler, so I doubt we could get both of their picks too unless we took on a bad deal.

Neither. Those were midseason trades made by teams who never would have been able to sign those players in the offseason.

And vege, I don't think you're correct. We are currently over the cap by about 3 million dollars. I don't think we did have the cap space to sign Jennings.

Neither. Those were midseason trades made by teams who never would have been able to sign those players in the offseason.

So isn't this the situation we will be in next year?
