Who do you want as new GM?
We're always saying that Dumars should be gone at the end of the season, but who do you really want as our new GM?

He'll never leave Boston but Mike Zarren would be my desire and if I was Gores I'd offer him the world to run the totality of my basketball operations with complete autonomy from ownership meddling.

Basically a new school GM. He doesn't have to be a "money ball" guy, but preferably not just a former player.

Anybody from BOS, SA, and HOU.
I really like Pritchard too since he's already groomed and ready to go. A dark horse is someone like Tom Penn too. Those are all reasonable choices given their acumen and history.

I read on mlive that Travis Schlenk an assistant gm for the Warriors has been at recent Pustons games and is a top prospect for new GM

Looks to be even better than Tom Penn at team building

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

I think Steve Kerr deserves another chance. He'd be my choice.

What makes you believe he's "better at team building" than Tom Penn, or would excel in that area?
I'm not trying to razz you. I would just like to know what you know, because I'm not aware of his specific contributions to Golden State and whatever perception of their success they have had.

In the article Jerry West endorses him, and it also goes on to say he's worked for Daly and Riley too. That doesn't mean he will succeed of course, but that's a pretty damn good resume for an assistant.
What's so great about Tom Penn anyways? Isn't he just a cap guy like Tom Lewand?
Schlenk, as West’s endorsement shows, benefited from a strong group of mentors. He worked with Chuck Daly during his internship with the Orlando Magic in 1997-98. After a season as an assistant coach at Georgia, he returned to the NBA. Daly told him, “Welcome to the club. You’re not a coach until you’ve been fired.”
Schlenk hooked on with Miami as video coordinator, where he worked with Pat Riley, Stan Van Gundy, Erik Spoelstra and Jeff Bzdelik. At Golden State, he worked with Mike Montgomery and Don Nelson.
From Riley, he learned the importance of details and organization. Nelson eagerly tried innovative approaches on offense. Daly’s personality made everyone in the organization feel important.
“I’ve been very fortunate,” Schlenk said. “They taught me there is more than one way to skin a cat.”
The only reason I'd have pause about this guy is he said he spends a lot of time studying a players makeup and not just stats, yet he was part of the front office that passed on Drummond saying he didn't know how to play basketball. So, while I definitely want someone who actually evaluates what's on the inside of a player more than just stats, I'm not sure how good those evaluation skill of his are, if he couldn't see something special in Drummond. Although a lot of teams passed on him, so I'd be willing to give him a free pass, but he just better be a fan of Drummond now and not come in looking to trade him for Harrison Barnes lol

Re: Who do you want as new GM?
I did a little research on Travis Schlenk. I generally appreciated what I read about him. He has a graduate degree in sports administration from Wichita State. Been around the league and brief stints in the NCAA since the 90's.
He values culture very highly, and apparently administer personality tests to all of their prospective draft picks and free agents. Values analytic statistics, but also understands their are nuances to players that aren't representative on in a number.
If he is hired as the new GM, I would definitely back him 100%. Considering what I just outlined, I imagine moving Jennings and Smith would be his first priority after finding a new coaching staff.

You bring up a great point. But, they took Harrison Barnes, who was definitely a fit for their team. That had to carry a lot of weight for them. Additionally, Drummond's lone season in UConn was a resounding failure. Anyone drafting him was really relying on his upside. Obviously, it's turned out fantastic for us so far. But, I absolutely understand where team's hesitancy came from.
For Detroit, we were choosing between Drummond and John Henson at #9. It was a much safer pick for Detroit.
It's not as if GS whiffed on their pick. Barnes is a good player, that has shown flashes, but has lacked opportunity this season. There aren't many shots to go around if you're in line behind Curry, Klay and Lee.

yeah good points. We also don't know where he stood on Drummond. I remember reading their GM Meyers say their front office was divided on Drummond, that some loved him and wanted him, but others didn't like him. It was also their owner I believe who said he couldn't play, not the GM, so its possible this Schlenk guy was one who wanted him, but the owner overrided management and wanted Barnes instead. Either way it wouldn't be fair to blame him because he was just an assistant and didn't have final say, whether he wanted him or not.

Exactly. Being the Asst. GM means he had some influence and filtered up information to Myers, ownership and coaching, but ultimately didn't have final say on anything. He could have loved Andre. Who knows? But, I suppose we're on a slippery slope.

Re: Who do you want as new GM?
Is Tank for Schlenk going to be a thing now? I actually want him now. We need a new culture and a era and he seems to bring that. That alone will do so much wonders for this franchise who seem to be chasing after nostalgia and false memories.
