Doug McDermott?

So if we get the #8 pick, who do we take? Assuming we are set at C and PF, and depending your take on Jennings, PG as well. We can certainly use some shooting and improvements out of the SG and SF position. Taking all this into consideration, seems like Doug McDermott would fit well. He isn't super athletic, but is super smart, so should be able to comprehend and play sufficient team defense. One thing for sure is that he can shoot the lights out. Might be an interesting pick for us.

God I hope not. Too slow and unathletic and won't be able to defend at all. His best case scenario is a situational shooter off the bench...a shorter Novak. He's probably a bottom .1% athlete in the NBA.

I would probably take Hood or TJ Warren over him.

Dougie McBuckets? He's likely a stretch 4 in the NBA. Which kind of makes sense for Detroit, as he would be THE stretch 4 of the NBA with his shooting touch, which would leave Drummond with copious amounts of real estate to romp around in the paint.

Obviously, size and athleticism are concerns. But, that isn't always the biggest issues if we finally had an adequate defensive system and perimeter players that can reasonably guard people (right now it's atrocious).

I wouldn't be against Doug. I don't think he's a superstar, but you know what he is. His worst case scenario is a lights out shooter. That's something every team needs. That may not be what you want to spend a top 10 pick on, but there's certainly a lot less gambling going on there.

Additionally, there's tons of examples of low athleticism/high skill players that have done really well in the NBA. Larry Bird being the king of them all.

He's a stretch 4. There's no way he will be able to defend NBA SFs. Him and Monroe at 3/4 defensively would basically be accepting that you're never winning championships and just going all in on offense to sells tickets.

If we were trading Monroe and looking at him as stretch 4 replacement, I think it would be an upgrade in terms of fit offensively, and maybe even in terms of talent as well. Defensively you would have the same problems you have with Monroe now though. He's basically the stretch 4 version of Monroe. Both soft and slow defenders whose value is all on offense. One gives you that offense all in the paint/post, the other mostly perimeter. For this team with Drummond inside, the perimeter guy would be a better fit at PF. However we need a 4 that can shoot and defend, so I just don't think he is the answer.

If we trade Monroe, Jennings and Smith and sign Lowry and Ariza or 2 players with their defensive potential, McDermott could be a great PF in this team. With this team we got now, he's an horrible pick.

we need athletic wings who can shoot and defend. Whoever fits that description is good in my books.

I don't get why people would be in favour of drafting McDermott in the first round or the lottery, but so against drafting an all-round better player in Kyle Anderson late in the first or early in the second. The opposition I was getting on here for even suggesting Anderson in that later range was ridiculous.

i've been on this bandwagon for a while. I don't think moose can develop a mid-range game in the necessary time we need him too. Offensively Moose is more refined however lacks anything outside the paint, which is what we need as a compliment to Dre. Defensively both are liabilities . We need guys that can shoot the ball. Now if we are drafting DM to be our SF, then i do have a problem with that.

Whether i'd pick him at 8 would depend on how he tests out. I think he's at least in the discussion. Moose and or smith would need to be traded

Threads like this make me thankful Joe D is the GM. McDermott has bust written all over him. He cant rebound, he can't play defense, he can shoot and that is about it. He certainly is not a starting NBA PF on a good team.

If the stars align, McDermott is Ryan Anderson but most likely he is Channing Frye.

I'd rather have CleAnthony Early.

I'd rather send this pick to Charlotte if this is the best we could hope for at #8.

Agreed. Or or package him with something on draft day. There is no NBA comp for Doug that makes me want to pick him in the lottery. He's basically a shorter Novak.

I want one of Wiggins, Parker, Exum or Smart. If those 4 are gone then move down into the mid to late teens where one of Harris, Anderson, Early, Hood or Warren will be.

I can't say I saw any of those posts. Anderson in that draft positioning would be a great risk/reward pick for any team.

So win the lottery OR package our #8 with Monroe to move up to #4? Or use #8 to move Smith out and fall down until the mid-teens?

Yeah, I would package the pick to try and move up or down, depending on who's being traded.

The guy is like a tweener, can't guard either 3 or 4 and can't rebound unlike our frontcourt actually can. I'd take my chances with Singler/Datome/Mitchell.

You can't trade Monroe
