who could/would sign greg monroe to a max-level deal?

Post#1 » by jakebernat » Thu Apr 3, 2014 11:32 pm

everyone keeps saying that moose is definitely get a max deal, but who's it gonna come from?

Dallas will probably make a pitch to everyone eventually, but would that really be a good fit for both sides?

new orleans could be a dark horse destination if they can get out from either Gordon's or Evan's deals. I guess it's possible that they could force us to take a sign and trade deal.

Boston is another team that I think can really work their way into monroe talks. they'll have the money to offer, and a slew of assets to offer in a potential trade. I'm sure we'd ask for rondo, but that would probably get turned down. In the end, I could honestly see us accepting something like green, olynyck, and a 1st rounder for moose.

who else is there?

Who could financially offer him a $13+ million contract?

-Charlotte
-Cleveland
-Miami (potentially)
-Orlando
-Wizards (noted suitor)
-Lakers
-Phoenix
-Sacramento
-Dallas
-San Antonio (if Duncan opts out)
-Philadelphia
-Toronto

Some of those are dependent on whether teams or player pick up player options. But, basically, a lot of teams will or can have cap space this summer.

I could see Washington, Phoenix, and possibly Orlando at least having talks with him.

Many teams with cap space and a lack of FA star power is what drives the market. He is considered a top 5 FA so as long as more than 5 teams have max cap space he is getting a max deal most likely.

All these teams, most teams would do back flips to have a 23 year old offensively skilled dude like this on their team.

Good news is I cannot wrap my hands around the fact that the Pistons could ever be dumb enough to let him leave.

I think Washington will be the team to sign him to an offer sheet, with Dallas being a second possibility.

I agree. I think they'll pursue Monroe with a max deal, thinking a future core of Monroe, Wall and Beal would be solid.

He's going to be in huge demand this offseason.

I could see at the very least, half the teams Heisenberg mentioned throwing money at Moose.

4/52 is essentially $1M less per season than a max offer. I'm a sure a team like Washington or Phoenix wouldn't mind offering an extra $1M per year to put us off matching the contract.

I'm extremely worried Phoenix and especially Orlando will offer the maximum for Monroe.

Orlando have been conservative with their cap and have drafted fairly well...Monroe could/would really make an impact.

Monroe, a Lotto pick, Afflalo, Oladipo, Harris/Harkless...could get interesting for the Magic.

As for Phoenix...Dragic, Bledsoe & Monroe is certainly interesting. Throw in all those picks, the Morris boys and Green...

Washington? Is that a better destination than Orlando or Phoenix?

The open market will set the value for Monroe- and it will be the max. My money is on Washington to be his biggest suitor and I think it will take less than 24 hours for us to match.

Absolutely. You can bet your ass that a 23 year old PF/C putting up 15/9 will get a $13.7M a year deal from someone.

that's right,
and Monroe's stats will rise with a guy not named Drummond aside off him.

Really? Well drop that 52mil to 50mil if that's the case. 4yrs/50mil deal sounds perfect for Monroe. 8-)

I think Phoenix is the team watch. Think about a Monroe and Plumlee(Blake Griffin lite) front-court, that would be a talented 4/5 combo.

Bledsoe/Dragic
Dragic/Green
Green/Tucker
Plumlee/Morris/Frye
Monroe/Len

Orlando won't sign Monroe if they're smart. They have a poor man's version already in Vucevic.

New Orleans would be a beautiful fit if they can clear the cap space. I suspect that they'll try.

Washington is a well known suitor if they can't/don't resign Gortat.

I'm not sure the Suns want Monroe. He's a slow, unathletic big. They want a guy who can run, a finisher, and a rim protector. He doesn't fit there.

I could see us leaving it open the whole 10 days. I believe his cap hold is something like $10 mil and we can exceed the cap to resign Moose, so hypothetically we should have an extra ~$3 mil in cap room between the start of FA and whenever we match his offer.

I could see a sign and trade happening here. Eric Gordon for Monroe. I wouldn't like the trade, but I could still see it happening.

Thats a very good playoff team for the next 7 or 8 years at least.

How good is determined by Beal.

Yeah teams would die to have our over exxagerated Monroe/Drummond debacle. lol

Still gotta save this for future use, sorry.

Highly unlikely. Never trade big for small, that's elementary GM school. I promise I'll apologize if I'm wrong.

I would love it if you used it as your sig bro. I'll say it again, 4yrs/50mil deal for Monroe. The Suns and Pelicans will be the teams looking to acquire Moose the hardest.

You're still saying the "you guys left" phrase. Come on my dude, everybody's different. Nobody likes followers. :nonono:
