If it turns out like that we probably will take Noah Vonleh if not, its probaly between Gordan, Harris, GR3 and Early.

Re: If pistons stay at pick 8
If those 7 are gone trade down. We could move to pick ~15 with a team that wants Vonleh and still walk away with one of Anderson, Lavine, Harris, Early etc.

Do you mean if they stay at 7? They're 7th right now
Vince Ellis hinted the Pistons could be interested in Exum in his chat today.

I got Early as the 3rd best SF, but I'd be indifferent on taking 23 year old as a top 10 pick.

Re: If pistons stay at pick 8
Harris is the solid pick here, IMO.
Would anyone let it go to Phoenix for 14, 17 and 26?

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I would definitely be willing to trade down for 2 picks in the teens if all of those guys are gone, I would prefer it actually.

I was thnking it would be awesome to take GR3 in latter rounds and play him at sg,I think if he is drafted and that team uses him at sg,it could turn out great for them.Good at getting to the rim, finishing with both hands, defense is good, mid range shot is good, very athletic at 6"6 220 with a 6"9 wingspan and plays like it,can play off the ball, has good vision, has decent ball handling, cuts to the basket good,is really good at timing his opponet to get steals, good in transition, very unselfish player (which is one of the knocks on him)
His problems
3pt shooting
needs to get tougher and not be disisive (this argument always makes me laugh when I hear it)
alittle to unselfish
I would love to get him and think he could become a really good sg with spurts at sf.
P.S screw anyone quoting this and saying I want him because I live in MI and thats all.

Another player I like is hood, the kid does a bit of everything and can hit perriniter shots, athletic and loves to play above the rim.If we can trade our pick and move down and could still pick him up I would do it in a heartbeat and pickup GR3.

Trade Phoenix the 8th for 14 & 17, take Stauskas and LaVine. There's your new backcourt.

While I like Stauskas and LaVine, I feel like if they were our backcourt, players like Avery Bradley and Brian Roberts would drop 40 on us.

I'm thinking along future projections. Additionally, they couldn't be worse than Jennings and Singler.
LaVine is 6'5, he would definitely have a size and length advantage against most NBA point guards. I wouldn't immediately insert him into the line-up. I think he's going to need a fair amount of development.
With Stauskas, people talk about him like he has cement blocks around his feet. I think his floor is JJ Redick. He can be a passable defender in a quality system. And his 3-point stroke will keep him in the NBA for a long time.

Hell no. We absolutely should not waste a top 8 pick on a guard who will struggle to be average at the most loaded position in the league. He is nothing special at all.aad wrote:My pick would be tyler ennis
GR3 and Early? Have you ever looked at a draft board? GR3 and Early are second round prospects. GR3 is just a tease at this point, and I say that as someone who watched every game he played this year. Early is a tweener forward, and he's old.c-dot wrote:If it turns out like that we probably will take Noah Vonleh if not, its probaly between Gordan, Harris, GR3 and Early.
Vonleh would be a solid selection, although he certainly would not fill a need. I like his chances in the NBA.
Hood is an abysmal defender though. Really a one-way player. Very solid offensive wing-he can do at least a little of everything bar post ups, but he just isn't defending anyone in the NBA. He's really bad on that end. Awful wingspan has something to do with it.kurtis48239 wrote:Another player I like is hood, the kid does a bit of everything and can hit perriniter shots, athletic and loves to play above the rim.If we can trade our pick and move down and could still pick him up I would do it in a heartbeat and pickup GR3.

I'd trade down and take Gary Harris.

I'm not too hot on Harris. His overall shooting percentages are Jennings-ish. On top of the fact that he's a tad small for an NBA shooting guard.
I don't think he'll be a bust, but I like other prospects in his range more so.
Also- love the Mike James sig quote.

Its April, and I haven't seen anyone have Early outside the 1st round. I could definitely see him go in the 20s.

Re: If pistons stay at pick 8
definitely trade down with phoenix if that's an option. stauskas would be an easy pick, but the next pick would be tricky. we could go a number of ways. I'd take mcdermott if he was there. that gives us two potentially elite shooters. get rid of Smith, ride out jennings for another year, and go hard after rubio next offseason.

If we trade down and get two picks then I might take a chance on McDermott with one of them. That kid is a scoring machine and even has the Dirk step back mastered.

Alright, go to draft express and check where they have Early. He's in the 30s on their big board, making him a second round prospect. But even then, saying that he may be a top 20 selection, after c-dot suggested that he ( or GR3) are I contention for our pick at 8th overall? Come on, that's stupid.
And again, I'm not a huge fan of Early.

Re: If pistons stay at pick 8
If things go according to DraftExpress, these guys are available if we made the Phoenix deal.
14) Ennis/Harris/Stauskas
17) Anderson/Payne/Hood
26)Early/LaVine/GRIII
40)Austin/Marble/Napier/McAdoo
I'd go Harris, Hood, Early, Napier. Nice infusion of young talent all around the perimeter.
Could be a nice haul. And looking at who is left at eight, it's a no brainer.
