Upcoming FAs That Would Be Nice Thoughts

Post#1 » by Ghost » Mon Apr 7, 2014 11:49 pm

Was just browsing over the UFA/RFA list for this offseason and I think it would be nice to throw offers at: PJ Tucker, Shawn Livingston, Trevor Ariza, and Mike Miller. What do you think?
With Stuckey, CVille, and Jerebko having a player option he might not accept, we could have some cap space (especially if the new GM goes through with a S/T of Monroe).

Morrow or Meeks would both start over KCP. Also if we signed Ariza it would likely be because Monroe was traded and Smith moved to PF.

I like all these guys being mentioned though. Ariza, Meeks, Chalmers, Morrow, Sefolosha. All fit exactly what we need, and we should be able to get at least a few of them with all of our space.

Yeah, Meeks and Morrow would be nice pick-ups for our squad. I'll consider Ariza too if he's not asking for over 4.5mil per year.
@aad: Ariza would probably accept a bench role knowing that he'll play big minutes when Smith slides to the 4.

I would target Meeks, Ariza and Hayward and hell I would probably take Chalmers over Jennings at this point.

Either way though if we cant find a way to trade at least one of Smith or Jennings then theres no FA or draft pick thats going to come in and make much of a difference anyways.

Agreed. I'm holding out hope that we land smart in the draft because I'm extremely intrigued by the thought of a smart-kcp-jennings backcourt. Smith simply has to go. then we can focus on some 3's and 4's like ariza, hayward, and patterson to name a few.

I've had a ~thing~ for Shaun Livingston since 2004. He'd do well in a backcourt with the chuckers we frequently parade out there, in Bynum and Jennings.

If we could offer him the MLE, I would. Kid deserves it.

Smart can't shoot... Nor can he be relied on to play the 1 steady. That's why I love Tyler Ennis over him. It would be nice to have a floor general to get the ball to Drummond and either Monroe or Smith in the post. An Ennis-KCP backcourt going forward could be intriguing.

and to the guy who said having Chalmers over Jennings, at this point I agree  . He's the best defender and the more efficient shooter, plus he doesn't go around jacking them up all the time.

the way I see it, the draft is our only real hope of landing a franchise point guard. smart does have good passing instincts and other important qualities you can't teach like lockdown defense, size, and athleticism. with the proper coaching and lineup construction, I think he could find great success *borat voice*. besides, jennings could actually be a really good 6th man if he's surrounded by good defenders.

There's been little to make me think that Smart is capable of being a franchise point guard. He's another combo guard that could very well end up being just like Rodney Stuckey only taller. I'm also sure he'd struggle trying to constantly guard the faster point guards that you see every night in the NBA.

Ariza is a career chucker who happens to be in the midst of the best year of his career.

No thank you.

Yeah, you have to love his determination and ability to work his way back into the NBA after the injuries he suffered. He's a nice playmaker too and would bring that different mindset to the team. I've liked everything I've saw from him this season in Brooklyn in the games I have watched.

Honestly, if we can get rid of Smith and maybe even Jennings, I wouldn't mind getting these guys over them. But otherwise, we're still going to be rebuilding so no need to rush and overpay for "talent" like we did this offseason.

There's no way our new GM (Whoever he is) is going to continue where Dumars' left off, since they'd be an idiot to continue to let the big 3 headed hydra to continue.

If that's the case, why does he take so many 3's when he sucks at them? He takes over 5 three point attempts per game but can't hit even 30% of them. Heck, despite being even worse at taking 3's the previous season, he increased in number of three point attempts. That's something Josh Smith would do.

Smart is less efficient of a scorer than Stuckey was in college overall, and he really isn't blowing me away as a passer.

I looked at nearly every starting PG in the league (exluding Euros and the Lakers' nominal starter) and of those who had inferior A/TO ratios coming out of college, all of them were more efficient scorers than Smart.

He'll turn into a lockdown defender, sure, but we need out point guard to actually run the offense. I don't trust Smart to be better than Stuckey at doing that.
