Dumars to resign as early as this week

Post#1 » by Q00 » Tue Apr 8, 2014 6:58 am

As the Pistons prepare to ride out the last two weeks of the regular season, the sun might be setting on Pistons president Joe Dumars’ reign with the only franchise he’s known.

Dumars has told multiple sources within the NBA that he plans to resign — possibly as soon as this week — after a busy offseason that included the signings of high-priced free agents Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings and led to an underachieving 2013-14 season. The Pistons, who many experts picked to return to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, are 28-49 and out of playoff contention.

I think Joe will get another gig soon and be fine. He just needs a fresh start and so do we.

However, I don't trust Gores at all so I'm concerned. I also think its a horrible idea to go into the draft without a GM. Our pick may be horrible this year.

Just don't panic,
Gores is a businessman, i think there is something up his sleeve.
He isn't so stupid as we all think.

At first I read as Dumars was going to re-sign!

I hope this report is true. I don't want to wait around for him to get pushed out of office. Walk away as soon as the season ends, and allow the next GM to quickly come in and get busy on the team's draft process and formulating their off-season plans.

At least Gores is getting someone in here in time so they have time to focus on the draft it looks like. The new guy needs a couple months to evaluate some prospects or possibly draft night trades.

There is no parallel job to GM in the college ranks. What type of collegiate experience are you referring to?
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Would be great, as it would allow us to openly vet out possible replacements without any negative PR fallout.

We need a quality FO in place leading into the draft. It is essential.

Best of luck Joe. I'll always be thankful for what you brought as a player and for assembling a championship team. Things don't last forever in the NBA though and it's clearly time for a change for everyone.

But please, please don't join the bulls, celtics or lakers. It's bad enough we had to see rodman winning championships with our mortal enemies.

Things for everything Joe! Mad respect for eveything you've given our franchise. At this point I can't say you'll be missed but you'll always be repsected by me.

He had his hand in three championships. I think both sides feel it's time to move on.

I'm betting Gores already has his replacement lined up if not already not officially hired. They need to be in place to hit the ground running to fire Loyer, start an exhaustive coaching search while preparing potentially for the draft.

Gores can't start a GM+ search only after Dumars officially resigns. Those types of hunts can take months themselves. I bet it's that GS Warrior guy.

When I say collegiate experience, I mean someone who played basketball at the college level. We need someone who played the game of basketball so we won't be one of those dumb teams who passed on Drummond and Monroe. I don't want a GM who's scared to take chances on players like Rasheed, Rip Hamilton, or even Josh Smith because of character issue. That whole idea about character issue is for the birds Electric.

I don't want to see us turn into Cavs or Kings man! I hate tanking with a passion.

Thank you for everything Joe Dumars. Approximately 30 years with the franchise, most of which was terrific. The final years were rough, but who knows how much was your fault vs. Karen Davidsion/Tom Gores, etc.

It's time to leave Detroit, but I know you'll land elsewhere. Cleveland will probably be all over it.

If we hear Schlenk is the new GM soon afterwards, we can probably surmise that Gores had a handshake agreement with him in place, considering what we've already seen. If nothing else, talks between the two have definitely happened.
