Brian Windhorst on Andre Drummond

Much has been made about the Windhorst interview regarding Kyrie, but buried in the interview was this fun nugget:

But it’s dangerous to give up on one of them because I do feel that they’re really talented. For a while, people hammered the Cavs on Harrison Barnes versus Dion Waiters… or even Andre Drummond. I think, ideally, Andre Drummond is your third best player on a good team. I think Dion could potentially be your second best player on a good team. So, I think the pick was good. I just think the personality match was bad.

If Andre Drummond is your 3rd best player on a good team, who are the 1 and 2?

What a joke. So basically Dion Waiters is more valuable then Drummond? How anyone can look at what Drummond has done at age 20 and say that he will only be the 3rd best player on a good team is dumbfounding. Dre unequivocally has superstar potential. Waiters is an undersized chucker with a bad attitude and poor defense. I never liked Windhorst and this just gives me more reason not to.

I'm thinking the article was written in a green font that doesn't render properly on my computer.

Or this dude is a clown.

Probably the latter

Yet every fan would love to have him on their team...

Sounds like something a realGM poster would say. He has to be reading comments off here.

It has to be either 1) people were determined he'd be a bust and are clinging to their stance or 2) people upset their team passed on him. From what I've seen he gets more irrational hate than almost anyone on Realgm. It blows the mind, he's a completely likable guy and doing crazy things for his age and it seems like a large camp of people actively want to see him fail.

Drummond is a year and half younger than Waiters. To sit here two years later and see what Drummond has done and see the rift between Kyrie & Waiters and still defend that Waiters was the way to go is either idiotic or homertastic.

he often covers stuff with the Miami heat and he's known on the heat board as 'fatboy', among other nicknames.

basically, the dude is an idiot.

Yeah I could understand if he said 3rd best option but when you say 3rd best player then thats a hell of a team.

Dre has an under developed raw game.
Dre is a really immature for his age playful guy.
Dre has a low motor.

blah blah blah

Dre plays to his rudimentary strengths and dominates the game. This guy has stripped elite guys in the open court. He has gotten stupid high rebound numbers. He has nothing but growth ahead of him. And his ceiling for growth is MUCH higher than Waiters.

I'll have to file Windhorst's comments under "Whatever Dude".

Yeah, pretty much every fan of a team that didn't draft him and doesn't have either Davis or Lillard on their team.

Check the market value. 10 Waiters aren't worth 1 Drummond

If from this point on Drummond never improves at all, then maybe he's a third best player.

Too bad that's not going to happen. Dre's ceiling faaaar exceeds Waiters'.

He can drop the second syllable of his last name, whoever he is.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
