Smith for Lin - Would you do it?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Thu Apr 10, 2014 6:17 pm

Seems like a good trade, salaries match, we get to shorten our financial obligations and get a pass first pg. Would Houston do it?

Can't see why Houston would do that, even if they don't want Lin around. Smith is exactly the wrong kind of player to play with Dwight.

I tried it on both ESPN and RealGM trademachine/checkers and it seems we need to take back 838k+ in order for salaries to match.

I'd do it, certainly.

They'd have Howard-Smith-Parsons-Harden-Beverley? I believe they are very fond of Beverley and may be keen on giving him a starting spot.

Houston hangs up the phone crying. Not with laughter, genuine sadness at the state of the world.

I think they're content with Terrence Jones starting at PF...maybe if Dwight really makes a push to team up with his buddy Smoove.

I was under the impression a big reason the Rockets value Lin is his appeal in China, where the Rockets like having a foothold. I know the Rockets owner is heavily invested in that area of the world. I think Lin is a guy who holds more value to them then just his basketball contributions. I can't seem them going for that deal.

Houston actually tried to negotiate a sign and trade with Atlanta for Smith this last summer. Many believe it fell through as ATL didn't want to take on Lin or Asik's salary.

I would do this in a heartbeat. One year of Lin vs three of Smith. It's a no-brainer.

Lin is soft and turnover prone, but I would definitely do that deal. The biggest win would be getting Smith off the roster.

That deal no. I think we can sell Phil Jackson on the idea of Josh Smith for Andrea, assuming that Carmelo resigns.

i know the general consensus on here is that smith is the antichrist/reason for all things bad, and i get that, but it's not like the dude can't play basketball. i mean, there HAS to be teams at least interested in his services, he was a borderline all-star for the better half of a decade...

No the salaries don't match but in theory I would do that.

:-? Forget if Houston would do it, Detroit wouldn't even pick up the phone and propose this deal. Some of you guys are selling Smith too short, and I mean extremely short.

Hopefully everyone will learn soon enough.

In my opinion, he (like Monroe) doesn't worth that money.

Everybody here know I prefer Smith over Monroe as PF (I really prefer Ryan Anderson, but there's no way we can't get him), but he's so overpaying, he's dumb and he thinks he's a great shooter and he's very inefficient.

If we want to trade him, expect get guys like Fields, McGee, Bargnani or something like that.

And there isn't any possibility in the world the Rockets trade for him, they got Terrence Jones do it the same or better for so much less money.

Hell yes. I've been wanting Lin for the better half of this season for a while now.

Lin needs a new scenery in which the coach actually lets him run the offense. Smith needs new a scenery anywhere outside of Detroit because it prevents the Pistons fans to stop getting cancer from watching him. Houston doesn't need Lin or Asik as it stands right now, since if they get rid of them both somehow, it allows them sign another relatively big contract in their place which is what any contender would want to do.

Throw in a second round pick or something plus a filler and I'd do it.

Our options for moving Smith are very limited. Kings seemed to be the best bet IMO, but with Ray McCallum killing it as their starting PG, they might decide to go for their PF in the draft, instead of Smart, since a good PF prospect will likely be there. I'm not sure if they'd decide to go with Smith's long-term contract over a young, cheap prospect and letting their awful contracts expire.

Celtics have too many PF prospect already, no chance they accelerate the rebuild with Smith until at least one more season.

Morey is an analytics guy who would hate to have Smith. I suspect that they'll hold out to either pay Parsons when his contract is up or to go for a third star (Melo, Love, Bosh, etc.). If they strike out there, maybe we can move Smith to them. The emergence of Terrance Jones make this unlikely IMO. They'll need another PG then too.

Dallas seems like another option. They could use a guy who plays defense on that team, so if they strike out in adding a big star again, they might just go for Smith as the next best option. Play Dirk at C some minutes with Smith handling the better bigman.

I don't know if Phil is dumb enough to want Smith over cap space to add a better player in free agency the next offseason, or if he's under pressure to win immediately.

Nets are a possibility, but it's hard to say what sort of deal could be made with them. Plus, if they actually win it all, Proky might say "alright, now that we've won, let's stop losing money and funding the league with our lux tax money" and not add more long-term contracts. Plus they basically have nothing to trade unless KG says that he's okay with being traded here (unlikely) or we accept taking on Joe Johnson (also unlikely).

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

However the Rockets wouldn't do such a deal because Terrence Jones has been lighting it up and looks like the perfect fit in that offense. This is just Jones' second or third year in the league and he has more room to grow, so it wouldn't make sense for them to hinder themselves by taking on Smith.

Houston actually tried to negotiate a sign and trade with Atlanta for Smith this last summer. Many believe it fell through as ATL didn't want to take on Lin or Asik's salary.

Since then, however, Josh is about to register the worst 3pt shooting season in the entire history of the NBA.

There are facts, or call it stats, which say that he never in his whole career shoots that bad. He was told by Cheeks and Dumars that he was the SF and he needed to shoot if he can. If you tell this to a dumb player, that's what it happens.
