Brandon Jennings gets an Award :-)

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Wed Apr 16, 2014 3:52 pm

From Insider today, the Haberstroh Awards:

Most Drives Allowed
And the HabersTrophy goes to ... Brandon Jennings
Wondering how Detroit ended up with the NBA's 25th-ranked defense despite their massive size up front? You can start with the point of attack. And that starts with Jennings. The frail point guard allowed a whopping 491 drives this season, which was the highest total of any player in SportVU's database. No matter how many big bodies there are out there, that's a lot of mess to clean up.

Dude is terrible, I literally cant recall a play where his man doesnt just blow right past him. I seriously think I hate him worse then Smith. This is why we need to draft Smart somehow.

So,

This is bassicly 982 points we give up on drives,
don't forget the fouls on these drives,
At least nice numbers from our starting pg and something to talk about
And counting, still one game over ........

Like i've said since last Summer, Monroe & Drummond would look a lot better on defense when we get 2 or 3 wings that can actually stop dribble penetration, even a little.

I haven't seen enough games to appreciate how terrible Jennings is, but the numbers speak for themselves. I'm so ready to rid ourselves of Jennings and Smith.

This is why i can't understand people who think Jennings is ANY GOOD. ESPN stats DRPM (defensiv real plus/minus )ranked Jennings 430 out of 435 players. Jennings is by far the WORST defender in the league playing 35 min. His offense is not good enough to make up for this godawful defense, you just can't justify this playing him so many minutes, at best he is a backup PG in this league playing no more than 15-20 min max.

In my opinion getting rid of Jennings should be target #1a in the offseason, Smith is #1b. Jennings negative impact on the team is just greater playing a position thats loaded in the NBA. Smith is not far behind though.

I can't lay claim to last summer, but pretty much this whole season it's been obvious that our guard play defensively has been terrible. It isn't just Jennings either, although there is a little of "Captain Obvious" in this observation as who hasn't been frustrated by the ease with which opposing players drive. It certainly does put the bigs in a bad situation.

Agreed

Jennings, Singler & Smith have maybe contained dribble penetration 5 times total combined this year, all 3 are piss poor defenders.

This is by far the most frustrating part of jennings. Almost all of these seem to come off the pick and roll. He just makes absolutely no effort to get around screens. Putting him out there with smith just makes matters worse because neither seem to have any idea how to defend the most common play in basketball.

Haha, that's a terrible award to receive. Jennings really needs to work on his defense this summer. But like I always say, stop the hate on my dude Jennings.

This gem as well:

Most Opportunistic Scorer
And the HabersTrophy goes to ... Brandon Jennings
Another Jennings appearance. After crunching some numbers in NBA's StatsCube database, I found that Jennings' scoring rate per 36 minutes jumped 8.2 points from when it was a one-possession game (13.6 points per 36 minutes) compared to when the scoreboard showed a double-digit rout (21.8 points per 36 minutes). None of the 150 qualified players padded their scoring totals more in blowouts.

...followed by shaking his head randomly.

Hey, if he decides to get his act together, all the better. It isn't just Jennings. Stuckey blows hot and cold on his defensive effort, Bynum isn't good, Singler is out of position guarding the 2 and sort of adequate at the 3. KCP tried hard, but defensively he looked like a rookie sometimes and at others made some impressive plays. Siva really is an incomplete. Smith isn't too bad on the ball, but off he gets caught ball watching a lot and his guy runs to the basket or a favorite spot up before he even notices. C'mon, you have to admit there were times you were like; "GD, TRY TO STAY IN FRONT OF THEM!"

100% agree with everything you said. It's the team as a whole, I'm glad you noticed. And yes, I've screamed that plenty of times. 8-)

Thank you.
Worst PG I've ever seen in a Pistons uniform.
Ronny Lee puts Jennings to shame.
