seriously Grant Hill? what kind of GM -qualifications do you acquire by doing TV? enough with these ex-players please, i am OK with Chauncey as an assistant GM, but please, please just get an experienced assistant GM who's ready to take the next step.

He seems like a smart enough guy, but he has zero experience in a front office.
I wouldn't hate Scott perry coming back.

A name that is kinda interesting is Allan Houston. He's a known name, he's still fairly young and he's got experience in NY.

Grant Hill is an interesting name. It still comes down to who you surround yourself with. Do you have good analytics guys working for you? Do you have smart cap specialists working for you? Do you have good scouts? If you are a great leader and have the right people working for you, it should work. I'm not sure who Joe had on staff but I doubt he had good analytics people, otherwise they would have told him not to touch Jennings or Smith.

At least Isiah's name hasn't popped back up.

Why does it seem like these guys are always more interested in PR stunts than they are in actually finding the best man for tbe job?

Hopefully the price Kohl just got for the Bucks makes Gores consider flipping the team for a quick profit.

Its not like Stein is reporting Perry and Hill are atop of the GM list, and Hill got consideration last year for the Suns job too. Their names popping up probably doesn't mean a whole lot now.

It was probably more of just a courtesy by the Suns than actual consideration.

Its just funny that wiith the position this teams in, needing somewhat of a miracle to get it turned around, that the first two names to be floated are a guy who was a trainwreck at his previous spot even though he had pretty much unlimited resources to work with, and a guy with no experience whatsoever. The only thing either of them has going for them is name recognition, which is starting to become the modus operandi with this organization lately.

Yes sir! A former player or former assistant GM, both who's had ties with the Pistons. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Let me text Gores and tell him he's getting me excited.

Houston would be an intriguing name. Grant Hill also seems like a smart guy, but I agree, putting together a good team for the rising stars doesn't mean you'll be a good GM.

The way I look at it Dumars had treated this team like it should always of been a playoff team, or at least a competitive ever since the BG/CV signings. This season was year it was time for him to put up or shut up. I don't think Gores playoff expectations were unreasonable. Dumars has been after Smith for years. Gores didn't put a gun to his head to sign him.

What are you talking about? Hill has GM experience. He built the Rookie-Sophmore team around Drummond that led to his 30/25 game and MVP.

Seriously though, I'm not sure he has what it takes to be a GM for the same reasons I didn't like him much as a player - he's too nice. I could see him getting offered a pot of gold for his garbage and telling the other GM, 'man you know I can't do that to you. Let me at least add in a few of my good players to make it even' lol

I'd still be more intrigued by him as GM than Scott Perry, who I cannot figure why is even being considered, let alone his name coming up in seemingly every report like hes the frontrunner. He's the last person the Pistons should be looking at. That would be like the Lions firing Millen and replacing him with Mayhew.

Perry's tenure here as assistant GM coincided with the beginning of Joe's downfall. He was our VP when we signed Gordon & Villanueva, hired Curry, Kuester, and Frank, and we went from a contender to trash with him. Then he goes to Orlando and helps orchestrate the Howard trade that netted them absolutely nothing in return, and that team has been one of the worst in the league since he joined them. This guy has nothing but losing seasons on his resume and I can't understand what the attraction is from the Pistons here.

The longer this process goes and the broader it becomes, the more I get concerned. Both coaching hires followed his same broad, long drawn out approach. Its like he makes up his mind on one guy and then says 'wait, let me see what this other guy has to offer first before I make a decision...' Then he ends up outsmarting himself and going with the wrong guy. I want to hear that Gores has been plotting his next move for the last year and knows EXACTLY who he wants by now, and its just a matter of convincing them to join. He's had all year to figure this out and make a decision. This should be narrowed down to at least 2-3 candidates by now. The more names that come up, and the more time he has to overthink it, the more odds of him choosing the wrong guy.
