Greg Monroe: "Team Doesn't Have Good Chemistry"

Per Mlive, Greg has just acknowledged what we have all known all along, that the team had zero chemistry. He thinks we need more shooters on the perimeter and hoped that the team wouldve performed better.
We have had a number of debates about whether or not Greg should be retained. But these comments from Greg have me wondering if he even wants to return. He clearly is unimpressed with the team as currently constructed, does he want a fresh start elsewhere?
Also, who do you feel is responsible for the lousy locker room situation and what are possible solutions?
Personally, I take these comments from Greg as an indictment on Smith and Jennings.

This is sad. Hopefully, the Pistons get a coach and GM that builds team unity before they start losing players.

Me too, he's cool with Drummond and I think they're angry for bring here 2 dumb players who don't look to pass them the ball.

This is how you lose talent. I wouldn't even blame Greg if he wanted to leave, this organization has been awful to develop talent anyways and trying to surround key pieces with the right fits.

Of course the chemistry sucked. This group of guys have more talent than a 29 win team, they just suffer from truly not being a 'team'.
Wouldn't mind exploring a sign and trade for Greg Monroe that possibly could net us a young shooter. Big 3 won't work unless one plays the McDyess role and that isn't going to happen.

I read that article too. I think Monroe was talking about us needing a stable coach here. Our team will never get an identity if we continue to fire coach, after coach, after coach. Everything doesn't have to be Smith's and Jennings fault guys, smh.

I can't blame him if he wants to play for another team. Unfortunately for Greg, that decision isn't his alone to make.
I definitely look at Jennings, Smith and Stuckey. Those 3 are known locker room cancers.
But, I also place a massive amount of blame on Joe Dumars. He did not place any value on culture and chemistry when putting these teams together since the Billups trade. It trickled down to coaches who couldn't instill culture in the team as well.
Culture starts from the top down in any business. Period. While you can point fingers at Brandon and Josh at the ground level, Joe was the true culprit.

Hes talking about Jennings and Smith im sure. Monroe needs to start bringing intensity every game himself though as well. Theres games where he comes out and dominates and then can have a stretch where hes a softy that helps contribute to some of these loses.

Good for Greg. If he leaves, I hope he can somehow find his way home to New Orleans. He and Davis would make an All NBA tandem...much like can be had here in Detroit.

1. JSmoove got paid and doesn't give two ****
2. Jennings may be the dumbest player in the entire league
3. Stuckey knew he's not going to be back next year and only tried because he needed another contract
4. CV31 checked out 4 years ago
5. Jerebko thinks he should be playing 20+ minutes per game
I'm praying we can dump Smith & Jennings and Jerebko opts out. Drummond/Monroe/Mitchell/Singler/KCP/Siva need to be surrounded by vets like Danny Granger who are willing to take a backseat to help them along. Smith/Jennings/Stuckey/CV31 are the opposite of the type of guys we need around them.
Heisenberg is exactly right, this is all on Joe. For a solid half decade he's completely ignored cultural makeup and roster balance and just chased names. There's a reason no one else wanted Smith or Jennings or even Stuckey when he was a FA a few years ago.

This is why you don't let a lame duck GM make desperate moves. Bringing in Smith and Jennings because they have "talent" no matter their personalities or fit with your core guys was doomed for failure right at the beginning.

I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for a guy like Greg to play together with imbeciles like Smith and Jennings. This was a contract year for Greg playing a position he hasn't played before in 3 years, but you didn't hear him bitching that he got less FGA than last year, he didn't just shot stupid jumpers because he was "open" no matter if you can make them or not.
He actually improved his FG% this year. He will improve his game because unlike Smennings he's got a good BBIQ, a good coach would certainly help. No more Kuester/Frank/Cheeks/Loyer, a good coach who can help develop his game. He should be a big part going forward no matter what happens with Smith.

I think it's odd that people don't bring up the fact that Jennings completely gave up on this team after Cheeks was fired.

I've brought that up. Only solution to jennings and josh is a george Karl type coach or MAYBE SVG. To make these clowns play pick n roll and within the inside!! Man it's not hard

Cant blame him at all, Joe stunted his & Drum's development big time via signing the idiot twins.
The Moose/Drum domination like last night should have been happening all year this year. Our record would have been better, the team would have been way more fun to watch & the growth this year could have given us would have been outstanding. But alas, season wasted.
Unfortunately at Heis said, its not his decision & unless we hire Q00 as our GM, Moose will be retained & Josh will be moved.

Monroe is classy. The reporter was trying to get him to call guys out and he wouldn't.
Unfortunately, he isn't blameless either. He wanted them to bring in Dre so he could move to the 4. Now it's 2 years in and he has yet to develop any sort of consistent jumpshot and still hasn't figured out how to play pick and roll D. If those weren't glaring issues, there wouldn't even be questions about him being resigned and teamed with Dre for the next decade. We would just max him and then build around those 2.

Only solution to stop them 2 from playing bad basketball is RETIREMENT.
