When are trades allowed again?

Can non playoff teams trade now? Do we have to wait until the playoffs are done? At what point does next year's salaries count in calculating trades?

I should know this, and if I wasn't so lazy, I'd waste more of my job time googling it, but obviously too lazy or incompetent, not sure which :-)

^^^ I've been wondering the same thing . Wish we had a New GM in place maybe he could get started right away trying to unload some of our ****.

If I recall correctly, teams that are not in the playoffs can begin dealing again as soon as their season ends. It doesn't really apply to us though because we don't have a GM yet to make any deals anyways lol.

Another reason why Gores would be wise to get someone in place ASAP. You want to give the new GM as much time as possible to explore all potential s&t's for Monroe.

I'm pretty sure teams can start dealing if they are not in the playoffs. However, I think its extremely rare for that to happen considering that the teams in the playoffs could be potential trade partners for the teams not in the playoffs.

Sooner we come up with a package to deal Smith and to a lesser extent Jennings, the better.

So let's do it now.

Teams are allowed to trade players as soon as their season ends, but they can't trade players whose contracts will end or might end.

Q is correct on all accounts.

It's not unusual to see a couple small trades during the playoffs between lottery teams.

I realize we want to get the right guy, but this is a heckuva time to be hanging without a GM.

I wonder if we're waiting for someone who is currently employed on a playoff team?

Its also frowned upon to do trades during the playoffs. Its like going to a wedding to announce your having a baby. Its considered stealing the spotlight to make a deal during the playoffs. At least it needs to be done on an off day with no NBA games. The other issue is that the cap for 2014 still has to be used. Harder to make trades now and easier if you wait.
