http://www.detroitbadboys.com/2014/4/17 ... h-smith-asI don't read minds, but Wednesday night offered some insight. The Pistons looked like an actual team.
The ball movement was crisp, with players moving and cutting without the basketball.
Monroe was put in the elbow area and was making plays for himself and for others. In what could be his final game as a Piston, as he enters restricted free agency, Monroe put up 22 points, eight rebounds and nine assists - a very high number for a power forward.
And he wasn't doing it against a stiff; Thunder big man Serge Ibaka is considered a top-flight defender.
Monroe worked well with franchise cornerstone Andre Drummond, who was dominant with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
With the floor properly spaced, wing players Kyle Singler (20 points) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (a stunning 30 points) benefited.
What was missing?
Smith was on the bench. He was dressed in a suit for the final five games of the season.
Great article.

Might be hard to get a decent deal to move him. So long as he isn't playing SF anymore though that's an improvement.
I'd prefer to start Monroe, but unfortunately, it makes more sense to start him at PF to increase his value.
That said, I'm plenty down to dump him. I think that the Kings are our best option, but Dallas could go for him if they again fail to get a guy who can play defense next to Dirk.

At this point if we don't have to give up the pick or take back and even worse contract, I'd deal him and Jennings. Quite frankly this team is better of without either of them. Obviously they aren't the source of all our problems; we need more perimeter shooting and more talent in general, but it's no coincidence that the offense looked so much better and KCP/Monroe thrived when we ran the offense through Monroe/Drummond.

At this point, Josh Smith for Gerald Wallace would be good for us.

If you look it this way, ok for me.
Everything is better than Smith at sf.

That's an emotional reaction. Smith is somewhat overpaid but some teams still view him as a guy that can be useful and productive in the right position for the right team. We can probably get close to expirings or another player that is also talented and productive, yet overpaid, like David Lee. Wallace is dead weight and a cap space eater.

We were 1-4 in our last five, including the Cleveland humiliation. The OKC game was encouraging but that's an awfully small sample.

I wonder if Denver would do a Smith and 8 for Chandler and Faried trade??
Chandler would fit in great for us and he's a michigan guy IIRC. Faried would be first big off the bench and could play alongside both Moose and Dre. Both are younger than smith and have only 2 years remaining.
It would depend on who falls to 8th i suppose.

Could've sworn Faried was a RFA.

According to the trade checker he's got 2 more years. I guess they extended him last year

people who think he can't be traded are (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Just dont expect much return. An easy sell low.

Monroe 17 & 10 since the All Star Break, Drummond 18 & 17 in the month of April when he was finally used a little more.
What a dominant front line these two could be for the next decade if the new GM can fix this.

Gotta get rid of this clown somehow. Gores is just going to have to accept the fact that hes not going to get back assets for this guy. But just getting rid of him is a win win because you dont want this jerk off poisoning your young squad.

I seriously believe we would be in the playoffs without Smith.
Getting rid of him is a huge addition to the team.

I honestly agree. Given how weak the conference was, we really should have been in the playoffs.
it's pretty clear when Smith isn't playing that the team flows better.
If you replace Smith with a guy like Granger or a similar level guy with half a brain, we'd be maybe 6th or so.

He was just deflating, I mean it isn't all on him but he weighed the team down tremendously, you could just see the body language after his horrible shots and poor defensive rotations.
He just negative in all regards, occasionally getting a weak side block or steal. The guy just has zero clue what his restrictions as a player are, he is delusional.

Very true.
There's a lot of blame to go around. From top to bottom, the team was massively disappointing, but there's 2 things in my mind that would dramatically change the team for the better and thats 1, hire a real coach. I vote Hollins. and 2, remove smith from the team. If those two things get done and we add another top 8 pick and whatever we get for Smith, we'll be in the playoffs guaranteed.
Smith will be good on another team, i have no doubt about that. On a team that needs an athletic 4 and has a good coach in place, he'll be solid, but we don't need him or his contract.

all the confidence in the world, but absolutely no self-awareness: that's smith in a nutshell.
