2nd year players are usually discounted for MIP. It's just generally expected that they will improve.

Except Anthony Davis came in third in the voting overall.

People are stupid -- Dragic definitely deserved to win, but Andre improved quite a bit (if nothing else, lots more minutes without stamina issues) and deserved more votes.

He was a truly awful team and was generally viewed as a minus defender. I can see why he was passed over.

Dragic was the leader on an over-achieving team, and should have made the all-star team.

I get it. No worries. Maybe it will motivate Drummond this summer?

I agree he doesn't deserve it. I just found it funny that blaha thought he did.

You can always count on Blaha for the homer vote.

So you think he should have lost a little closer? I'm not sure what the difference is if you felt the right person won.

I thought Drummond would get some votes, but you have to love how Dragic came on.. Everybody thought the Suns would be a bottom-5 team and were basically tanking and Dragic stepped up and had an all-star type performance for the season :)

"Except Anthony Davis came in third in the voting overall."

Yeah, that proves the point. By the numbers - Increases from the prior year

Dragic

+5.6 ppg
-1.5 apg
+0.1 rpg
0.0 bpg
-0.2 spg

Davis

+7.3 ppg
+0.6 apg
+1.8 rpg
+1.0 bpg
+0.1 spg

Dragic had a heck of a year, but Davis improved more in every major statistical category. Across the board, he improved more than dragic, but he still trailed a distant third in "Most improved" voting. Granted, Dragic certainly has a well deserved leg up due to his team success, but it's pretty obvious that 2nd year improvement is heavily discounted in the voting process.

All I said was that Drummond didn't get enough respect for his improvement...

+5.6 ppg
+5.6 rpg (!)

Everything else about even, although he did manage to shoot an even higher percentage and improved his FT% a little bit.

If his D would have been better he would have been in the mix, except it got worse.

I love Drummond and he's going to be a monster, but he needs to drastically improve defensively. he was really bad this season on that end of the court.

Jennings giving up 452 drives ( most in the nba ) will do that

Eh Jennings is a big problem, but Dre gets caught sleeping in the paint.

This. Plus lottery picks in their second year should be expected to make a big leap. MIP is so ambiguous.

Drummond's defense definitely wasn't as good as I expected, but I don't think it's fair to characterize it as "bad". Moose is bad. Jennings is very bad. Andre just isn't particularly "good" yet.
