GM Search: Afflalo Trade & Billups Trade Common Denominator

The genesis of Afflalo for a second round pick and Billups for Iverson was Mark Warkentien, when he was in Denver. He is a former NBA Executive of the year and a native (Fort Wayne) of the region. Just sayin...

We're talking about 6 years ago, Dumars was a hell off a GM before that trade,

It's possible that Dumars was lucky going by rumors.

Rumors
* Orlando included Ben Wallace in the S&T because they felt loyalty to Bo Outlaw
* Pistons offered Tim Thomas a near max or max deal when G-Hill left.
* Pistons offered Mo Taylor an all-star contract when Tim Thomas didn't come.
* Pistons offered Tayshaun (after his rookie year) and Chucky for Ricky Davis.
* Rick Carlisle might still be here...
* Grizzlies offered Pau for 2nd overall pick in case you wanted "a sure thing."
* lucked into Chauncey's MLE.
* Flip Murray sucked.
* Nazr Mohammed sucked.
* Arroyo didn't help anything.
* Delfino could've helped things.
* Corliss traded to pay Derrick Coleman to not play for 1.5 years.
* lucked into Mike James in the Sheed trade.

note: rumors = crap heard on some form of media and everything else are just thoughts.

EDIT: I find the drafting done to be INCREDIBLY GOOD. Darko aside. Even Daye was not a bad pick for the reasoning. Late 1st's and even Late 2nd's brought GEMS. One of the best drafting teams in the league under Joe Dumars. If it's a school test, then the Darko pick would be like losing points for forgetting to put your name and the date. Then Joe goes on to nail the toughest questions.
