Gigi Datome...his future???

As an italian...I honestly think that this guy has true guts...and he will prove his value if he doesn't come back to Europe...Belinelli and Gallo are most significant examples!
What do u think about him?

Datome is likely heading back to Italy unless he has a breakout year next season.

I think our coaching sucked and we failed to give Gigi as well as a number of other guys develop. I saw games where Gigi showed grit, but I also saw significant stretches where he struggled with his shot. I'm interested in seeing him get a shot at summer league and preseason competition and have that build his confidence for next season.

Otherwise he will be one of those guys we give up and and Coach Pop grabs him and he's like a key player on a championship team. :banghead:

I hope whoever our new coach is will give this guy a chance, I feel like if he got consistent minutes he could be a pretty good player off the bench for us.

In my opinion he only has to improve his defense and a little of bit of 3pt percentages...and he could be a very all around player

He's never really gotten a chance but he's looked like crap when he has played in small doses. Can't really draw a conclusion though on him because we just haven't seen enough.

He picked the wrong team to sign with. I could see him as a throw in in a trade for cap purposes and released by the acquiring team sorta deal, but picked up by another NBA team for a second chance and a better situation for him. I never expected much from him to begin with - a wasted roster spot that I would have rather used on 10-day contract "try outs".

If he was on the Spurs or Dallas, he'd shine under their system and coaching.

Unfortunately, the Pistons are downright awful when it comes to taking time and developing talent since we really don't have any deep personnel due to yearly coaching changes.

One more time, I need to say, if Singler got chances in the NBA, Datome got it. Datome is better player than Singler in every aspect of the game, anyone who had seen european basketball knows it.

If you're right, then Datome needs to play.

If he is even equal to Singler, then he needs to play.

Singler is a top-notch bench player.

I hope he will be used more by our next coach. He is better than singler and also a few other players that we have on the roster right now: he deserves a chance.

Ps. Fino alla fine Forza Juventus fratello bianconero! Massima concentrazione per la partita con il Benfica ora! :D

He can play a significant role off the bench, however he'll never be a nba starter. He's not quick enough to be a good defender, and/or drive the lanes. He'll be in the nba as long as he can score. I do think inconsistent minutes did play a part him not gettin into a scoring rhythm , however he also failed to seize his opportunities when given the chance

Datome was a better defender and more hard nosed than I expected. He wasn't a big liability on the floor defensively and rebounded okay for a SF. The problem was that he was signed as a shooting specialist and pretty much couldn't throw it in the ocean. It seems likely he gets another look in the coming season as he isn't expensive and is signed. I'd love to see the guy show some of that advertised shooting.

I still can't believe he wasn't given more opportunities down the stretch, made no sense at all to keep him in a garbage role.

Ahh, Gigi...

What's funny is that I only went to two NBA games last year, and one of them was DET@GSW. We got our asses kicked.... BAD... but Gigi had a run in that game where he came in and immediately hit four shots in a row. The people around me knew I was a a Pistons fan and asked me "who the guy with the ponytail was". This was early in the year, back when I still had some hope for the season and some hope Datome might earn 15 regular minutes. Never happened.

I thought that he looked like he knew what he was doing on the court, and played surprisingly good defense, but man he struggled with his shot. I hope that he gets some more burn next season so he can get in a rhythm as a shooter.

Needed to be given a legit role and wasn't

Needed to be part if a system offensively and we didn't really have one

Needed to choose a better organization to sign with...snd didn't

meh, I say package him as part of a larger deal. I can't see him being THAT much better than singler, if at all. remember when people were clamoring for kravstov to play? lol

He was signed strictly for his 3pt shooting and he was 17.9% from 3. I don't think coaching had anything to do with it either. They got him open looks every time he was in the game. He just didn't make them.

Rookies from Europe generally don't get gifted 20 mpg to develop. They are usually signed/drafted for specific skills and its up to them to deliver those skills when called upon. If they don't then they don't get more minutes.
