So if the Bulls are trying to get something for Boozer, wouldn't a Smith-Boozer trade make some sense? We would have to overpay Boozer for a year, but then we would be free. Also, seems like Boozer would be fine being a role player, whereas Smith feels he needs to be the star. Seems like a reasonable trade.

The Bulls are just going to amnesty Boozer in hopes of signing Melo. The reports I've heard have the team planning on going all out for Melo for months. I can't see them picking Smith over a chance at Melo. If they whiff on Melo they could bring back Deng or sign Stephenson.



I do think Smith for Nash is interesting. Nash isn't likely to turn down ~$10 mil to retire if the Lakers keep him, but there's a good chance he might if he's traded. Smith would cost the Lakers an extra $4 mil over Nash but he'd likely give them a lot more than Nash would. They'd still have plenty of cap room to do whatever they want, plus a top 6 pick this year. They owe their 2015 draft pick to PHX (top 5 protected) and I really don't know that Kobe would be willing to mail in another season based upon the Love/Kyrie 2015 hope.

why would the bulls want smith when they have Gibson???

I feel like a broken record when I say that boozer will be amnestied...

At this point I'd trade Jennings or Smith for a case of faygo and 48 year old Fennis Dembo.

Bulls management is much to smart for this deal; they're getting more production at half the cost for Taj Gibson now. And they have Mirotic (who will be a four in the NBA) coming over this summer or next.

Can't see Nash retiring if he's traded here--$10m is $10m--but I could see the Lakers having interest in Smith. Especially if they're likely to lose next year's pick unless they reach a level of crappiness that's unlikely with Kobe around. Problem is that Smith's simply too expensive given how poorly he played last year. He's a bad contract rather than just a bloated one, so it's probably going to take either a team desperately in need of exactly what Smith offers or us taking back another bad contract.

The only somewhat realistic idea I've seen was Smith and our pick for Gerald Wallace and Bostons pick.

I believe the Bulls are attempting to shed salary to acquire Melo. Acquiring Smith somewhat contradicts the notion.

Josh Smith may run away with the "most hated Piston" title. Just blows my mind how the guy would have so little professional pride that he'd flip the off switch before the ink dried on the contract. Now we are going to have to take back a contract of a guy who can't play to dump him and he'll end up becoming what he always should have been for a team like the Spurs.

I'd do it in a heart beat. Boozer is entering the last year of his deal, right? Even if there's two years, its better than Smith.

We'll end up trading Smith to a team with cap space that loses out on a big free agent. I can see Dallas taking a chance on him. The big names always seem to avoid dallas.

I see no reason for Melo to go to Chicago. He makes them a second round or ECF team. He wants to win a title. But I suspect the Bulls are in denial.

Agreed, although if melo falls through, then this would be a nice consolation prize. I would definitely do it as long as we'd be drafting a SF. I don't think Bullz do it however as it be hard to argue Smith>boozer

I have serious reservations that Rose will be a top 10 player again. It's been 2+ years since we've seen him playing MVP caliber basketball. Never a good sign. Who has essentially been out for 2 years and came back as good as they were?
