Best Direction for this Team.

First and foremost we MUST get rid of Josh Smith. I also believe that we could do better at PG than Jennings, but he is more likely to "change" than Smith and has potential to be very good. That being said it is very unlikely that we could move both of them so I'd rather be stuck with Jennings than Smith.
Secondly, this team needs to be centered around our center Drummond. Moose and Dre would make an excellent combo if we had a SF that could actually stretch the floor and make plays within our team concept. I like KCP at SG and believe he will grow into an excellent SG.
So in a nut shell we need to be patient and not try to sign success, but rather build it from what we already have and through the draft. Our pick this year is huge and if we by some miracle get Wiggins or Parker the rebuilding process would be sped up exponentially.
Possible team if we win lotto....
PG: Jennings
SG: KCP
SF: Parker/Wiggins
PF: Moose
C: Dre
Bench: Singler and some FAs that understand the meaning of being a Role Player. Plus Siva and Mitchell could certainly become great role players.
If we don't win lotto and keep pick 8....
We draft M. Smart if possible or a BPA (Vonleh, Saric, Gordon, Etc...)
PG: Smart/Jennings
SG: KCP
SF: SIngler or FA
PF: Moose
C: Dre
Bench: Same as above

The opposite direction of Smith/Jennings.
It's pretty clear that Dre will soon become the best offensive player on our team. He showed a legitimate back to the basket post game at the end of the season, and he needs to be the 1st or 2nd option. If not in isolation, then by finding him in P&R. I agree with drafting Smart if he's available at 8, we'd be pretty lucky to be able to add him. We need some with some fire on this team.

1- we are not winning the draft lottery. We should count our lucky stars if we even keep our pick.
2- Agreed, trading Smith should be a top priority.
3- Drummond isn't Dwight Howard (at least not yet). The team shouldn't be built around him. They should find a legitimate alpha to work as a two-man tandem with him.

This team should 100% be built around Drummond. And no, hes not Dwight. Hes closer athletically to a 300 pound Amare.

I'm not so sure 3 shooters surrounding Drumroe will be what works. Houston just got eliminated.
Now, 3 shooters that are plus defenders: I'm all for that. I'd be more likely to choose an okay shooter if he's a plus defender than a shooter that can't defend.
Lowry/Smart
KCP/PJ Hairston
Ariza/McDaniels

Try to keep Monroe, and clear enough salary to get Lowry. Move Jennings and Moose to the bench, and let Smith increase his trade value as a starter. Trade back with the Suns and pick up some wings, and maybe a Euro to stash. Land a coach who can at least get these guys to play defense.
Lowry and KCP with another year of development will provide excellent backcourt defense, or at least the best we have had since we traded Chauncey. Smith and Drummond Provide shot-blocking up the wazoo. Singler is not really a starter, but he'd be our best option, at least until the rookies improve. It should look good, perhaps good enough to move Smith without getting screwed. Monroe and Jennings provide instant offense off the bench.

1st step is to find a replacement for Jennings... there is no playoffs with this defensive sieve... can't finish... me first mentality.
2nd step- Remove J.R. (er ) Smith... low % chucking never works... yes he would do better at PF, but he should never be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd option.
3rd- sign Monroe then explore trades... the negatives on defense outweigh the offense & salary... unless he can be convinced that he is a 30 minute backup at PF/Center.
4th- All picks & trades should have defensive SKILLS as a priority... this team can not afford offensive only talent (Parker, Harris, Anderson etc)...defense creates offense... it's time to get back to the proven winning formula of lock down defense.

Every time I hear all the love for Monroe all I can think of is Bargs.
No they aren't similar players but both are very flawed'.
Monroe has a extremely poor shooting potential for a PF or C at .497 he shoots .524 from 0 to 3 feet, .321 from 3 to 10ft, .060 from 10 to 16ft and .094 from 3 pt. and is rated 80th offensively in players under 28. His on court performance is -4.3 off court +.1 and he played 57% of time @ C and 43% @ PF
Well you know his defense. Abysmal
I'm sure he is a great guy but is he one you want to pay Max for? I'm sure some deluded team will give him a crazy offer do a sign and trade you are better off.

Is Lowry an UFA or something cause I don't see how we could get him if he's a RFA or in a trade(why would the Raptors do that?) I know he's a good player but why do people think there's a chance we could land him?

I might be biased but I seriously think Drummond might end up being better than Howard. Drummond was already showing signs of a post game in his 2nd season while Howard still struggles with it from time to time. Not saying he will but I think there's a good chance he will.

That would be an intriguing squad! Much better than what we currently have. Even Moose at PF, and Vonleh playing 6th man would be great.

A step in the right direction... wish Ariza was a couple years younger... pretty sure Toronto pays to keep Lowry.

He will be an unrestricted free agent, so it's basically down to who offers the most money.

Toronto will have to offer him a lot to off-set the double taxation players have while playing in Canada.
