Cross posted in Player Comparison
Obviously Burke is just a rookie, but how did they compare as players this season? I was somewhat surprised by the stats.
Per 36, Points, Assists, Turnovers, TS%, 3pt%, FG%
Jennings 17/6/3 49.5%, 35.0%, 39.0% (Career)
Jennings 16/8/3 48.6%, 33.7%, 37.3% (2013-14)
Jennings 17/6/3 47.5%, 37.4%, 37.1% (Rookie)
Burke 14/6/2 47.3%, 33.0%, 38.0% (Rookie)
Edited to add Jennings 2013-14 and rookie numbers.

Jennings is better now but Burke will be better soon enough, simply because Burke lacks that bitchassness that overtakes Jennings.

Surprise! The raw stats still show us that they're both mediocre point guards.
I don't want either on the Pistons, unless they're backups.

This guy gets it...the Burke love was and still is overblown.

Man are those stats unholy. It's a good thing PGs like Burke are a dime a dozen. We have our own boneheaded inefficient guy leading our team with lack of defense.

Honestly I think Burke was better. Or less bad. Didn't kill the offense to the extent that Jennings did, and wasn't quite as bad on defense.

Trey Burke is an undersized, unimpressive (by NBA standards) athlete without an elite shot, elite handle, or elite instincts. What did you expect? He plays under control most of the time, makes the simple pass, and can occasionally get hot and score some.
Dude has leadership qualities and the heart of a lion, but that can only take you so far. At least he's a better NBA player than Mateen Cleaves!

Woah, Trey Burke was 20 years old this season. I'm not crazy about him as a prospect but he definitely outplayed KCP, who's the same age and whom most of us think is going to improve hugely. Burke doesn't have KCP's athleticism but Burke's biggest problem was shooting this year and that should certainly improve with more seasoning. No way you can forecast his career based on 70 games of his rookie season.
EDIT: most of Burke's advanced stats are similar to MCW's. Burke has a better efg%, more win shares per minute, and a better o-rating, while MCW has a better PER. Not saying they're the same player, just MCW's stat profile isn't much more impressive than Burke's. Rookies usually aren't very good.

I don't know if it is Spartan blood or what, but I don't understand the Burke hate. He was a rookie this year, playing the toughest position in the NBA, and did okay. He works his ass off and is only going to get better. I'd rather have him than Jennings without a doubt. And Jennings is probably the worst defensive PG in the league, so anything would be a step up.

Absolutely agree. Burke is going to be the best PG of this draft, remark my words.

MCW was absolutely terrible the second half of the season

And Burke was okay in the second half. For the whole season, both were decent rookies...which means pretty bad NBA starters.

Exactly. Not to mention that Burke plays the right way, something no one has ever said--and probably never will--about Jennings.
