Assuming you keep the pick this year, obviously. My fellow Bobcats fans are a bit divided. The camp I belong to think that you're basically a good coach away from not sucking whereas the other camp thinks that Jennings and Smith have doomed you all to lottery hell.

What's the consensus among the Pistons' faithful?

They'll get the #2 pick and send it to Charlotte. Gores will fire the next head coach, and new GM. He will wait until January of 2016 to hire a new GM and they will use an interim head coach until 2019.

One thing to watch out for is Silver's hard-on for the two year college rule. If he could get in through by next season, they draft could be pretty barren as all the potential one-and-dones will have to go back for another year. I don't believe this is a CBA issue as it's not effecting current players, so it's a deal between owners and the NCAA and thus could happen quickly.

I think a lot depends on whether the new coach remains committed to starting Josh Smith and whether Monroe sticks around.

If Monroe sticks around and Smith is either moved or benched I think the team has a chance of being good enough to at least come close to a playoff spot, assuming the coach is solid besides this.

Those are a lot of assumptions, though. If we end up with a bad coach and Smith/Jennings continue to take the lions share of our shots I think this team could easily be worse next year.

Its really too early to tell at this point, we don't have a clear enough picture of next years outlook. I've always said there's a solid chance that missing out on the pick could prove to be a boon for the Bobcats, though.

It's still far to early to tell, although I am not particularly optimistic about our future. We don't even have a GM.

If we keep Monroe but don't move out Smith (what I suspect will happen), but get a coach who will instal a good defensive system and only play two bigs at a time, then we could easily make the playoffs in the East. If we blow our draft pick and get another dud at coach, we'll probably be around the exact same spot.

Assuming we gey a reasonable GM/Coach and actually make some use of #8 & our cap space....

Mid to late teen draft pick for the Hornets.

Assuming we fail again this off-season to utilize the assets we do have the Hornets will get a Lotto pick.

Both those assumptions assume that we don't get bumped to #9...

I got us making the playoffs next season, so your Hornets will probably pick somewhere in the teens. If this ends up being true, that means Dumars made a good deal after all. 8-)

Honestly, if the Pistons don't get a GM in place by the draft, they might be better off just giving Charlotte the pick this year instead.

I just can't imagine how they could possibly build a team like that. Having one guy make a lotto pick based on his vision for the team, and then another guy comes in a week later and starts building the team from his vision.

If they aren't capable of getting a GM in time, it might be wise to just put the draft on pause until next year and take care of the Charlotte trade now.

^Who would make that trade of #8 overall for the return of the conditional pick owing? Gores himself? If there is no GM and no official acting GM just a bunch of dudes doing bits and pieces of typical GM role.

Probably somewhere between 7-17. Weve been pretty bad over the last 4-5years and never pick below 7. Especially now that we have Drummond and add a few shooters. We wont be anything special next year without a trade to space the floor though. But I wouldnt be shocked if were hovering around the playoffs with how bad the East is.

hahaha Ok my bad. Didn't see the ref. :D
I just noticed all your "favorite teams" too.

As for the pick, it's too early to say. If we keep our current pick, hire a real coach, hire a real GM and move Smith, then we should be in the hunt for a low playoff spot. If not, then well, you could be looking at a top 6-7 pick next season.

My off the cuff opinion would be around 12-15. There's a lot of talent that stepped on each others' toes this year, so I think that there'd be a small improvement with better coaching, a personnel move or two, and another year of development for Drum (plus KCP, Monroe, et al). I would be surprised if we were below #8 and surprised if we were above #18. Best case scenario the team would be a #6 seed in the east, and worst case we still have more talent than the bottom feeders.

If we refocus & acquire the proper talent to put around Monroe & Drummond we are easily a playoff team.

So it looks like y'all are getting SVG to be the man, very nice. So, do you think SVG will tinker with the roster as is and go for the playoffs with some quick fixes or try and tear the team down and rebuild to suit his vision? Y'all have a plethora of nice bigs but a scarcity of long-range shooters which characterize SVG teams. Do you think the Pistons can find those shooters this offseason?
